FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Skyhawks Picked to Win NE10 Championship this Season

MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight year, Stonehill has been chosen to win the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship, as the NE10 Coaches' Poll was released by the conference office today. The Skyhawks received one more point than defending conference champion Adelphi to earn the top spot. Adelphi defeated Stonehill, 5-4, in last year's thrilling NE10 Championship Final.

For complete results of the poll, which is voted upon by the league's head coaches, please see below.

CLOSER LOOK

  • If the league's head coaches are correct, the 2018 season will be extremely tight at the top as Stonehill (115) and Adelphi (114) were separated by just one point in the voting.
  • Stonehill (7), Adelphi (4), and Southern New Hampshire (1) were the three NE10 programs to earn First Place selections.
  • Last year, both Stonehill and Adelphi were selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament field. Stonehill upset NYIT in the First Round, before falling to Queens (N.Y.) in Round Two. Adelphi fell to Concordia in opening round action last spring.
  • The preseason favorite Skyhawks return five NE10 All-Conference selections from a year ago.  First teamers Alexandra Vo, pictured above, and Isabelle Porter return, as do Annelise Howick (No. 2 doubles) and Bethany Hammond (No. 3 doubles) were also first teamers last year. Senior Nicole Downey (No. 4 singles) was a third team honoree last year as well for the Skyhawks.
