Embrace The Championship: A Wild Quarterfinal Night in NE10 Volleyball Sees Three Lower-Seeded Teams Advance

Four extremely competitive matches and three lower-seeded teams winning highlighted the opening night of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Championship. Here's how a wild Quarterfinal round of action played out - 

#1 New Haven 3, #8 Pace 2
WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Top-seeded New Haven, who completed a perfect 14-0 mark during NE10 regular season play, faced their stiffest test from a conference foe as eighth-seeded Pace took them to five sets tonight but the Chargers prevailed 15-10 in the deciding set. Freshman Kali Greathead finished with 20 kills to lead New Haven, who will now host the Final Four of this year's conference championship.

#7 Southern Connecticut 3, #2 American International 1
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After dropping the first set, seventh-seeded Southern Connecticut ralled to take the next three sets to advance to the NE10 Semifinals. Alyssa Gage, pictured, and Leanna Jadus led the way for the Owls as they combined for 24 kills in the four-set win.

#6 Saint Anselm 3, #3 Bentley 2
WALTHAM, Mass. - Saint Anselm earned their first-ever NE10 postseason win tonight as they knocked off Bentley in the Quarterfinal Round of the NE10 Championship. A back-and-forth fifth set ended with the visiting Hawks claiming a 17-15 win to advance to the Semifinals for the first time in program history. Senior Katy Teets led the Saint Anselm attack as she finished with a team-best 18 kills.

#5 Stonehill 3, #4 Adelphi 1
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Fifth-seeded Stonehill took the first two sets en route to a four-set win over fourth-seeded Adelphi tonight in Garden City. Ashley Hitchcock led the way for the Skyhawks with a career-best 19 kills, while senior Katherine DeLanty chipped in with 15. With the win, Stonehill will now head to New Haven to take on the top-seeded Chargers in one semifinal Friday night.
