Adelphi Holds Off AIC and New Haven for Top Spot in NE10 Volleyball Coaches' Poll

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Adelphi Edges AIC and New Haven for Top Spot.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Just six points separated the top-three spots in the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Coaches' Poll, as Adelphi narrowly earned the top spot over American International and New Haven when the league announced the poll results on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA East Regional a year ago, received seven first-place votes from the league's head coaches – tallying 159 points, just three more than AIC (156 points, four first-place votes). New Haven was close behind in third with 153 points and three first-place tallies.

Adelphi went 27-7 (12-2 NE10) during the 2018 season and return both of its First Team All-Conference players in Sara Bisbe and Katarina Warburton. Led by 13-year head coach Danielle MacKnight, the Panthers have won three NE10 titles in program history (2011, 2014-15).

The Yellow Jackets advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2018, the second time in program history, and have reigning Player of the Year Jana Potic returning for her senior season. New Haven, the NE10 regular-season champion last season, has new leadership in head coach Christa Cooper.

SNHU ranked fourth with 112 points, while Saint Anselm and defending NE10 champion Southern Connecticut tied for fifth with 106 points each. Pace (95 points) and Bentley (90 points) rounded-out the top eight of the poll.

The 2019 volleyball season is tabbed to begin on Friday, Sept. 6, with New Haven playing Bemidji State in the Ferris State Invitational at 10 a.m. NE10 Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Nov. 22-23, as the highest remaining seed will host both the semifinals and final.
