AIC's Ezra Mutai & Assumption's Kialeigh Marston Earn Athlete of the Year Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Assumption senior Kialeigh Marston and American International's Ezra Mutai were named the Northeast-10 Women's and Men's Cross Country Athletes of the Year, highlighting the NE10's All-Conference awards which were released on Thursday afternoon.
For a complete list of all-conference selections, please see below. All-Conference teams are based on student-athlete performances at the NE10 Championships, which took place last month. The six major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.
Marston won her first individual title at the 2019 NE10 Cross Country Championship, finishing in 23:27.0 to be the first Assumption runner to accomplish the feat. She is also the first Greyhound to be named Cross Country Athlete of the Year. Marston was honored as the NE10 Athlete of the Week twice during the season, and took 14th at the NEICAAA Championships last month.
Mutai, a redshirt freshman, won the NE10 Crown by finishing in 26:03, more than one minute faster than the second place finisher. He was a two-time NE10 Athlete of the Week honoree during the season and won every race in which he competed. Mutai is the 11th consecutive runner from AIC to claim the individual title in leading the men's program to its fourth NE10 Championship.
AIC's Katie Olding was honored as the NE10 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, following an impressive fourth place finish in the NE10 Championship with a time of 24:30. The freshman earned Rookie of the Week honors twice during the season while also winning the Elms College Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 21. She is the first Yellow Jacket to be named Women's Rookie of the Year.
Stonehill freshman Reilly Johnston was selected as the NE10 Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year after placing ninth in the NE10 Championship with his time of 27:38. He is the first Skyhawk men's runner to earn Rookie of the Year recognition since Kevin Gill in 2007. Johnston also earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors once earlier this season.
Karen Boen was honored as the NE10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading her Stonehill team to its 11th consecutive NE10 Crown. It is the ninth straight year she secured Coach of the Year honors as she had four runners finish in the top eight at the NE10 Championship last month.
Leo Mayo of AIC was named the NE10 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading his squad to its four NE10 Championship and first since 2016. He had three runners place in the top seven and five in the top 20 to win the crown by 40 points. This marked the fourth time in Mayo's tenure he won Coach of the Year.
