Since the Northeast-7 Conference began competition in the fall of 1980, Bentley's Dick Lipe was a staple of the newly-founded league; now 40 years later, he continues to make contributions as sports information director for the Falcons.

Lipe enters his 44th season at Bentley in his current role in 2020-21, while enjoying his 48th overall at the University. What started as four years as an undergraduate student ('77 graduate) has blossomed into a decades-long run at his alma mater and invaluable contributions to the league, especially in its early years.

When the NE-7 was formed, Bentley's Director of Athletics Al Shields served as the league's first commissioner. Lipe followed suit in leading the conference's communications efforts from 1980-98, in addition to his work with the Falcons on campus. A pioneer in his field, Lipe saw the NE-7 eventually transform into the NE-10 and carried the torch for its sports information duties for nearly two decades.

Additionally, when the Eastern Football Conference was formed, Lipe handled SID responsibilities for the league from 1997-2000 before the NE10 began sponsoring football in 2001.

Lipe is a past president of the ECAC Sports Information Directors Association and was a college division representative on the Board of Directors of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for three years. He is a past chair of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee and was a member of the committee from 1979-2017 – a span of 38 years.

In October of 1993, Lipe was inducted into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2002, he was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame. Lipe completed the trifecta in 2006 as part of the first NE10 Hall of Fame class for his outstanding contributions to the league.

Lipe, an NE10 trailblazer, continues to leave his mark in league history and at Bentley. During the NBA season, you can hear his name mentioned on Boston Celtics' television broadcasts while he helps Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn with statistics.
