From the minute they joined the Northeast-10 in 2008, the University of New Haven volleyball team immediately became the team to beat, sporting a history that included 10 trips to the Final Eight prior to joining the league.

In the dozen years since the Blue and Gold joined the NE10, the 2012 season is arguably the most successful for the Chargers. The UNH women’s volleyball team completed its fifth-straight unbeaten trip through the Northeast-10 regular season to lock up the top seed in the conference championship.

After sweeping through the conference tournament, the Chargers earned the No.1 seed and hosting right for the second-straight season for the East Region Championship, defeating Dominican and NYIT to set up a title match against in-state rival Bridgeport. It would come down to extra points in the fifth set before the Chargers rattled off three-straight kills to earn the programs 12th regional title and trip to the national quarterfinals.

The six postseason matches up to that point extended the Chargers unbeaten streak to 27-straight matches, while they would enter the Final Eight with a 30-1 overall record, the best record in the nation at the time. New Haven would succumb to the Midwest Region Champion Indianapolis in the quarterfinal round, closing out the historic season with a 30-2 overall record, the best by winning percentage through the Chargers 12 year history in the NE10.

Led by the all-time winningest coach in program history, Robin Salters, the Chargers were paced by Keidy Candelaria ’13 and Amber Cannady ’14 who were both named All-Americans. Candelaria would earn NE10 Player of the year accolades for a second-straight season, while also being named the Daktronics East Region Player of the Year. Cannady joined the senior co-captain as a First Team All-NE10 selection and was named All-East Region by both Daktronics and the AVCA.

The Chargers also produced the NE10 Setter of the year, Kaulana Ane ’15, and the conference’s Rookie of the year, Kristen Lee ’16.
