When looking at the most dominant athletes in recent NE10 history, one name seems to be at the top of the list… Carly Muscaro.

The Merrimack product rewrote the Warriors’ and NE10 track & field record books, putting both on the national stage with a run of national championship performances that had never been seen before and will likely never be seen again.

Muscaro burst on the scene during her first indoor season, becoming the first Merrimack runner to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 10th in the 400 meters and earning NE10 Rookie of the Year honors in the process. During the outdoor season she repeated as Rookie of the Year and reached the NCAA Championships again. Muscaro was ranked fourth in the 400 meters after prelims but ran her way to a national runner-up finish and First-Team All-America honors.

As a sophomore her dominance in the 400 meters grew as she advanced to the NCAA Indoor Championships and finished as the National Runner-Up for her first indoor All-America honors. During the outdoor season she was honored as the NE10 Track Athlete of the Year and for a third time finished as the national runner-up in the 400 meters with her time of 52.48, nearly a second faster than her time the previous year.

2016 was a banner year for Muscaro on the track, highlighted by her first-ever National Championship, winning the 400 meters with a time of 52.34 seconds and helping the team’s 4x400 relay earn All-America honors with a sixth place finish. During the outdoor season she secured another National Championship in the 400 and was the runner-up in the 200 meters for a pair of All-America honors. She also earned USTFCCCA East Region & NE10 Track Athlete of the Year honors during both indoor and outdoor seasons.

Muscaro was on another level as a senior, starting with an impressive indoor season. At the NCAA Championships she claimed her first national championship in the 200 meters with a time of 23.57 and then doubled up with a time in the 400 meters of 51.78 seconds. She also helped her 4x400 relay earned All-America honors for the second straight year.

The Division II National Track Athlete of the Year capped off her outdoor season and her career with two more National Titles, winning the 200 meters in 23.40 and the 400 meters in 51.90 to give her six National Titles in total. Off the track she was recognized as USTFCCCA Track Indoor/Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year. Following the season she was also honored as the Honda National Division II Athlete of the Year.

Nearly four years after her graduation, Muscaro owns the top three 400m times at the NE10 Indoor Championships and the top four outdoor 400m times in the NE10 Outdoor Championships. Her time of 51.78 seconds in the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships is currently the NCAA Division II Championship record. Her fastest collegiate 400 meter time of 51.17 seconds, meanwhile, ranks as one of the top-ten fastest performances in NCAA Division II history.
