NE10 40th Anniversary Home Page
Kacie Smith, a 2019 Stonehill College graduate and native of Norwood, Massachusetts, rewrote the Northeast-10 Conference field hockey scoring record book over her outstanding four-year career. She led Stonehill to 41 wins, three NCAA Tournament bids and an NE10 Championship over her career and finished her career atop the NCAA Division II record book with her 3.17 career points per game average.
Smith is one of just two three-time NE10 Players of the Year in Conference history and is one of just three in Stonehill field hockey history to earn First Team All-America honors three times, while being named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) East Region Player of the Year three times as well. She is one of just two in NCAA Division II history to surpass 100 career goals and 200 points, finishing ranked second in Division II history with her NE10 record 257 points and 109 goals, while dishing out a Stonehill record 39 assists – good for fifth in NE10 history and ninth in Division II history.
“Kacie was just a phenomenal student-athlete for us at Stonehill,” said former head coach Susan Ciufo. “Having someone come in and leave her mark in the NE10 and NCAA Division II as well as our program, has been pretty remarkable. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to coach her for four years and see her grow as an athlete and person.”
Smith was named the Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year following a record-breaking 2017 season in which she led all three divisions of NCAA field hockey in points (99) and goals (41), setting a Division II single-season record in the latter category, while dishing out a program-record 17 assists to lead Division II. She set NE10 and program records for scoring, while her assist total ranks sixth in Conference history.
Smith received Stonehill’s Fr. William Gartland, CSC, Senior Female Student-Athlete Award and shined in the classroom as a health care administration major at the College. The two-time NE10 Academic All-Conference performer was a member of Upsilon Phi Delta honor society.
