Robin Salters has been a staple of the New Haven athletics department for more than 25 years, serving multiple administrative roles while becoming one of the Northeast-10 Conference’s most successful volleyball coaches in history.

Following the 2018 season, Salters retired after a 25-year coaching career in which she led New Haven’s women’s volleyball program to national prominence with a career record of 661-200 (.768) – a mark that spans 25 years (since 1994). She led her teams to 23 NCAA Division II Tournament berths, 16 conference tournament championships, 12 appearances in the DII Sweet 16 and 10 trips to the DII Elite Eight.

Salters is a seven-time American Volleyball Coaches Association East Region Coach of the Year and a five-time conference coach of the year.

New Haven’s volleyball program competed in its first season as an NE10 member in 2008. Under Salters’ leadership, the Chargers racked up 25-plus win seasons on seven occasions in the NE10 – winning nine regular season titles and six conference tournament championships. New Haven’s conference record from 2008-18 was a remarkable 144-14 (.911), including seven unbeaten seasons in league play. Her teams reached the NCAA Elite Eight four different times (’08, ’12, ’14, ’17) once joining the NE10.

Salters won a pair of Sandy Hoffman Coach of the Year awards from the NE10, while her players accounted for six Player of the Year, seven Setter of the Year and four Rookie of the Year honors from the conference since joining in 2008.

Beginning in 1994, Salters started working at her alma mater (’91) of New Haven as the head coach of the volleyball program and the department’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). In January of 2018, she was promoted to her current role of Deputy Director of Athletics. Throughout her tenure with the Chargers, she has been responsible for department budget preparation and oversight, sport supervision, oversight of facility repair and improvement projects, and Director of Compliance, among other roles.

Salters currently serves as the chairwoman of the NE10’s Sport Administration Council.
