On September 30, 1984, Springfield College served as the host for the first-ever Northeast-8 Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament. Coach Lisa Gilbride would coach Springfield to the title, as Stephanie Travers shined on the court with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bryan’ts Lisa Rezendes. Travers would go on to be named the Northeast-8 Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year following a standout first-season on Alden Street.

That victory would kickstart an incredible run of success for Springfield, as all told it would string together seven-straight conference titles, spanning from 1984-1990.

The 1986 squad would rattle off a 14-2 record, including a perfect 7-0 conference record en route to the conference title as well as the New England Championship behind the efforts of Pam Nunez at the No. 2 spot, Stephanie MacBurnie at the No. 3 position, and Sue Levesque at the No. 4 spot.

In 1987, the team took the title not on a campus site, outdistancing Bryant for the title at the nearby Wilbraham Tennis club, as it once again went unblemished in conference action with a 9-0 mark.

Springfield owned 9-0 conference records in each of the next three years as they would go on to capture the conference title on the campus of Stonehill. Twin sisters Kathy and Kerin Peterson played a key role in the 1989 as they would earn the NE-10 Doubles title for the third-straight season, while the 1990 season would prove to be a historic campaign as Springfield went undefeated with a 14-0 overall mark.
