NE10 40th Anniversary Home Page

In 1999 the Northeast-10 announced plans to become the largest Division II conference in the nation for the start of the 2000-01 academic year. It was a shrewd decision, which positioned the conference to enter the 21st century as the most dominant conference in the Northeast. This decision has paid dividends over the subsequent 20 years as every one of the five programs who joined the NE10 have each claimed an NCAA DII National Championship since becoming a member.

Franklin Pierce, UMass Lowell, Southern New Hampshire (formerly New Hampshire College), The College of Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State joined the Northeast-10 in the fall of 2000. Entering their first fall in the NE10, the Ravens' women’s soccer program and Owls' men’s soccer program were each Division II defending national champions, while the Golden Knights women’s basketball program reached the National Quarterfinals in the 1999-00 season.

Four of the five schools are still members of the conference, as UMass Lowell departed for Division I at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year. During their 13 years in the NE10, the River Hawks claimed a pair of Field Hockey NCAA National Championships as well as two individual NCAA Track & Field Titles.

Among the four schools who have remained in the NE10, the quartet has combined to capture 137 NE10 Tournament Championships over the last 20 years. Each school has won an NCAA Division II Team Championship and they’ve also combined for 18 individual NCAA Division II Championships. Southern Connecticut leads all schools with 77 conference titles in 13 sports, including 31 between men's indoor and outdoor track.

The four institutions continue to make their presence felt at the conference and the national. This past fall Southern New Hampshire claimed the fall Presidents’ Cup and had its field hockey team reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time. Southern Connecticut was the Presidents' Cup runner-up in the winter, behind NE10 Championships in swimming & diving and men's track & field. In the fall Franklin Pierce’s men’s soccer program reached the NCAA Quarterfinals and Saint Rose women’s soccer advanced to the National Semifinals after capturing the NE10 Championship.
