SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Assumption College senior ice hockey player Brennen Shaw was selected as the 2014-15 Northeast-10 Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. The league announced the award as part of its annual awards banquet, which was held Monday night at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Hotel in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The team captain and a 2014 Capital One Third Team Academic All-American, Shaw earned the Northeast-10 Conference Sport Excellence Award in hockey for the second straight season.

“I am so proud of both Brennen for this outstanding academic achievement,” said Nick Smith, director of athletics and recreation. “He truly embodies the phrase ‘student-athlete’ and is an example of the excellence that we hope that each of our student-athletes will aspire to achieve. He is a great ambassador of Assumption College and I would like to congratulate him on this wonderful accomplishment.”

The three-time Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honoree finished his career with a GPA of over a 3.9 as a business major. The 2015 class salutatorian, Shaw was the recipient of the 2015 Rev. Armand Desautels Award as Assumption’s “premier male senior student-athlete.”

On the ice, he finished his senior season with 12 points on seven goals and five assists while helping lead the team into the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament for the first time since 2011.
