Le Moyne's Tim Buff Named NE10 Man of the Year

Buff Becomes First NE10 Male Athlete to Earn Both
Man of the Year
and Scholar-Athlete of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOXBORO, Mass. – Le Moyne swimming and diving senior Tim Buff has been named the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Man of the Year as announced at the conference's annual end-of-the-year banquet which was held earlier this month at Gillette Stadium.

The Man of the Year is voted upon by the conference's 15 senior women's administrators, while the Scholar-Athlete of the Year is voted upon by a committee of faculty members and athletic administrators from the conference.

Buff is the second Le Moyne College student-athlete to be named the conference's Man of the Year, which honors student-athletes for their excellence in competition, in the classroom and in community service.

Pat Wiese of the baseball program was the recipient in 2014, the second year of the award. Buff is also the second Dolphin to receive the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Jack Venditti, 2011). In the five years since the introduction of the Man of the Year award, Buff is the first male student-athlete in the conference to earn both.

A Finance and Marketing major, Buff graduated last month with a 3.96 grade point average. For his efforts in the classroom, Buff has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District™ First Team each of the last three years and is a finalist for Academic All-America® honors, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Buff was named to the Academic All-America® Third Team as a junior. In April, Buff became just the third student-athlete in the eight years (23 seasons, 24 sports) of the awards program to be named the Northeast-10 Conference Sport Excellence Award recipient three straight years. Buff also received Academic All-Conference accolades for the third straight year. A Le Moyne College Dean's List member each semester as a Dolphin, Buff has been inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma (International Business Honor Society) and Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society).

At the Northeast-10 Conference Championships in February, he registered three top-two finishes to earn 54 individual points, the second-highest total on the team. He earned his second career NE10 gold medal by touching the wall first in the 400-yard IM with a school-record and NCAA "B"-cut time of 4:02.64 to win by over two seconds. He finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:53.79, the third-best time in the program's history. He concluded the Championship by placing second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a school-record time of 2:04.53. The mark eclipses his own school record of 2:06.84 set at the 2015 NE10 Championships, when he placed third. He also teamed on a third-place 800-yard freestyle relay team at the NE-10 Championships that set a school record by over 2.3 seconds.

With the addition of his gold, bronze and two silver medals this year, Buff finished his career with three gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals. He graduated holding four individual school records and being a part of a relay school record, while holding three individual Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool records and being a part of one relay pool record.
