93 NE10 Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference teams and Sport Excellence Award winners for the 2018 spring sports season have been released, the conference office announced today. For a full list of honorees and further details about each of the seven sport excellence award winners, please see below.
A total of 93 spring sport student-athletes collected NE10 Academic All-Conference accolades. That total represents a diverse group of student-athletes representing each of the league's 15 member institutions. Of the 93 that were recognized, 39 are repeat honorees from last year.
One Sport Excellence Award winner was also chosen from the following ten spring sports sports: baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field. The ten Sport Excellence award winners represented seven different schools, with Adelphi, Le Moyne, and Merrimack each having two student-athletes honored with one of the league's most prestigious awards.
Adelphi's Rebecca Fakas (tennis), Bentley's Cal Meyers (gofl), and Southern New Hampshire's Tiago Fernandes (tennis) were selected as the Sport Excellence Award Winners in their repsective sports for the second consecutive season.
Adelphi had 15 student-athletes honored to lead all NE10 institutions. Le Moyne and Merrimack each had 13 student-athletes, while Stonehill had eight and Bentley and Southern New Hampshire each had six honored. The Adelphi softball team, which won the NE10 title this spring, led all teams with four student-athletes selected, including three-time conference Player of the Year Brenna Martini. The Bentley men's golf team and the Merrimack baseball team, also NE10 champs this year, had three student-athletes honored.
The Le Moyne women's lacrosse team - which won their first-ever National Championship this spring - also had three student-athletes recognized. Included among the Dolphins trio was Bryanna Fazio who was named the Sport Excellence award winner in the sport.
To be eligible for selection to the NE10 Academic All-Conference teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; and 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
