South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference teams for the 2012 spring season, with 96 student-athletes from the nine spring sports receiving recognition for their outstanding achievements both in the classroom and on the field.

Three conference players of the year received recognition, including Bentley University’s Amy Varsell (women’s outdoor track & field), Le Moyne College’s Brittany Brigandi (women’s lacrosse), and Southern Connecticut State University’s Brittany Bucko (softball).

Southern New Hampshire University’s Timothy Flight (baseball), who was named the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year before being selected by the New York Yankees in the 2012 MLB Draft, was also honored.

So. Connecticut led all Northeast-10 schools with 13 student-athletes recognized, while Adelphi University had 11. Bentley and Le Moyne both had 10 student-athletes apiece.

By sport, women’s lacrosse had the highest number of student-athletes with 20 named to the Academic All-Conference Team, of which included six from Adelphi. Women’s outdoor track & field came in second with 15 and softball came in third with 14.

To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR).
