More than 3,000 student-athletes receive spring honor roll recognition

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – A total of 3,061 student-athletes have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2013 spring semester, the conference office announced on Thursday. That number accounts for 51.4 percent of all Northeast-10 student-athletes.

The Northeast-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes the conference’s student-athletes for their achievements within the classroom. Among those honored, 184 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average and nearly 41 percent posted a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

"We're extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes,” said Northeast-10 commissioner Julie Ruppert. “The fact that almost 52 percent of nearly 6,000 students reached this benchmark once again illustrates that our student-athletes have proven to excel not only on the athletic fields, but in the academic arena as well.”

Bentley University had the most student-athletes recognized (348) and also led the way in terms of percentage, as 69 percent (348 of 501) of the school’s student-athletes received the conference academic honor.

Adelphi University was second among Northeast-10 schools in terms of percentage at 66 percent, with 213 of 321 student-athletes named to the commissioner’s honor roll.

Nine of the 16 schools had percentage rates of 50 percent or higher.

Assumption College was second to Bentley with 222 student-athletes recognized, followed by Stonehill College in third place with 218.

By sport, women’s soccer had the most student-athletes recognized at 283, while football had 242. Women’s track & field had 228 named and baseball had 224 honorees.

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have met and or exceeded a minimum 3.0 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the Spring 2013 semester.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
