Northeast-10 Conference Announces Academic Team Excellence Winners

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its complete list of Academic Team Excellence winners from the 2011-2012 school year. Ten different schools had at least one team earn the award, while Bentley University led the way with seven of their teams earning the recognition.

Overall, 57% of the teams in the Northeast-10 posted an average grade point average of at least 3.0, with the University of New Haven's Women's Cross Country team posting the highest team GPA average with a 3.590.

Three teams that won Northeast-10 Conference championships during the 2011-2012 school year also earned Team Academic Excellence Awards - Adelphi's women's lacrosse team, Bentley's golf team, and Le Moyne's baseball team.

Two sports had a perfect mark in terms of team GPA's averaging 3.0 or better: women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field, while nine of the conference's 23 sports had at least 85% of the participating teams post an average grade point average of at least 3.0.

Following Bentley in the school totals were Franklin Pierce University and New Haven, which each had three teams recognized with the honor. Le Moyne College and Pace University each had two teams win the award.

The seven teams from Bentley that were recognized with the highest team GPA's are the Men's Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men's Lacrosse, Men's Soccer, Men's Indoor Track and Field, and the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Teams.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
