MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following the NCAA Division II Presidents Council decision to cancel NCAA Division II Championships for fall sports in 2020, the NE10 has released the following statement to demonstrate its continued support of the student-athlete experience for the 2020-21 academic year.
"Earlier this week, the NCAA Division II Presidents Council announced the cancellation of 2020 fall championship events due to the operational, logistical and financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this news, the NE10 is striving to ensure that our fall sports will have the opportunity to compete in 2021. While student-athletes in our seven fall sports will not have an opportunity to compete for a NCAA DII National Championship this year, the NE10 and its members are diligently planning for quality student-athlete experiences that culminate with NE10 championships in 2021."
The NE10's seven fall sports affected by the NCAA's decision are: football, field hockey, men's & women's cross country, men's & women's soccer, and volleyball. Men's & women's golf and women's tennis are not affected by the announcement as the NCAA Championship for all three sports takes place in the spring, despite the fact they compete for NE10 Championships in the fall.
