NE10 Promoting Voter Education Resources Leading Up To Election Day.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference, in its continued pursuit of achieving the league's vision of fostering engaged citizens among its student-athlete body, announced its #EMBRACEyourVOTE on Tuesday. The goal of the campaign is to promote civic engagement through education and voting.
Over the course of the next eight weeks, the NE10 and its member institutions will provide a series of conference-wide initiatives to increase voter registration and Election Day turnout, while educating student-athletes on the importance of always being active participants in the electoral process.
The campaign will extend through Election Day on November 3, a day that the NE10 has suspended all countable athletic-related activities for league members in order to encourage student-athletes to exercise their right to vote.
"The NE10 is proud to join the growing effort around education, registration and participation in the foundational aspect of our democracy: voting," said Julie Ruppert, NE10 Commissioner.
"We have boldly stated that our vision for the NE10 is to prepare our student-athletes, coaches and administrators to serve as engaged citizens and leaders in a diverse global society. What better way to exemplify these efforts than with this initiative. In combination with a mandatory day off from all required athletic activities, our Conference is proudly taking steps to turn our vision into reality."
Components of the campaign include informational posts on the NE10's social media accounts (@TheNortheast10 on Twitter, @TheNortheast10 on Facebook, thenortheast10 on Instagram) regarding voter registration, absentee ballots, links to voter resources in all 50 states, reminders for deadlines and debate days, and a focus on celebrating the right to vote.
Additionally, there will be collaboration among all NE10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) on campus to promote student-athlete registration and voting. The NE10 SAAC will also produce public service announcements that encourage voter participation.
The NE10 will provide tools and educational resources developed by nonpartisan organizations to answer questions on candidates, ballots and polls. Vote.org will be the primary resource for all voting-related information, while ballotpedia.org provides non-patisan information on candidates.
