D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award

D2 ADA RELEASE

1,181 Student-Athletes Represented from NE10 Institutions.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – On Tuesday, the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) announced its 2020-21 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards –with Northeast-10 Conference institutions producing 1,181 student-athletes who earned the honor.

The Academic Achievement Awards, in their 14th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. The NE10 ranked third among all conferences in total number of student-athletes honored.

Stonehill led all NE10 institutions with 166 honorees, while Pace (153), Bentley (146), Franklin Pierce (144) and Adelphi (136) were all close behind.

In total, there was a record-breaking 16,164 student-athletes from 187 institutions recognized, the most since the inception of the award's program. The NE10 trailed only the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in overall number of award recipients.

"It is incredible to think that our athletes excelled in the classroom despite having to deal with the many stressors associated with COVID-19," said Dr. Bren Stevens, Vice President for Athletics at the University of Charleston and current D2 ADA President. "To see once again that a record-breaking number of students are recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award is simply astonishing."

For a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the DII institution must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. Additionally, a student-athlete must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work.
  • Have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Given the vast experiences institutions have had this year when it comes to participation, all athletes who meet bullet point items one and two are still eligible as long as they were still an active member of the roster during this academic year.
