The NE10 Weekend Preview: Sept. 24-26
Every Friday, the NE10 is going to highlight the biggest contests each weekend. It may be a big-time rivalry, matchup between two ranked teams or a battle for playoff-positioning. Fans can follow the action for every game by visiting our schedule page.

FOOTBALL

Bentley at American International: Sept. 25 – 12:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

For the second time in as many weeks, a pair of NE10 football programs who are receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) will meet when Bentley visits American International at Ronald J. Abdow Field. Both teams enter with 3-0 records, including 1-0 marks in conference play following last weekend.

AIC quarterback Jayson Demild, the reigning NE10 Offensive Player of the Week, will take on Bentley linebacker Cedie Dashiell II, the D2Football.com and NE10 Defensive Player of the Week in Saturday's showdown. Bentley, the defending NE10 champion, leads the league in scoring (35.0 points per game) and has won its three games by an average of 15.3 points per contest. AIC is 3-0 for the first time since the 2009 season.

Southern Connecticut at New Haven: Sept. 25 – 1:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Elm City Trophy is once again up for grabs when Southern Connecticut travels across town to face New Haven. The Owls are coming off a thrilling 34-31 win over Saint Anselm, their first conference win of the season, while the Chargers play their first NE10 game of the 2021 campaign on the blue turf at Ralph F. Dellacamera Stadium.

New Haven leads the all-time series with Southern Connecticut, 24-6-1, including victories in each of the past 11 meetings. The last Owls' win over the Chargers came on Oct. 2, 2009. SCSU enters Saturday with the most passing yards per game (277.3) among all NE10 teams, led by quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky. New Haven's offense is led by running back Shamar Logan – the 2019 NE10 Rookie of the Year.


FIELD HOCKEY

Adelphi at No. 5 Stonehill: Sept. 25 – 1:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Skyhawks are the hottest team in the nation, having won five straight games and scored at least three goals in each of their last four contests. They are 6-1 overall  and their defense has only allowed more than one goal in two of their seven games. Adelphi, meanwhile, is 2-1 and playing its first NE10 contests this weekend. The Panthers last played on Sept. 9 when they fell 3-2 to East Stroudsburg. A pair of wins over SNHU (Friday) and Stonehill this weekend would put them back in the national rankings.

Kaylee Deleva has four goals and one assists in just three games for Adelphi, while Giana McKeogh scored twice with an assist. In net, Amanda Montiel has a 1.33 GAA with eight saves for a .667 GAA and one shutout. Raegan Hickey leads the Skyhawks with 14 points on five goals and four assists, while Emily Ledoux and Emma Mawn each have seven points. Abigail Campbell has anchored the defense with a 0.92 GAA and 38 saves with a .864 save percentage.

Pace at No. 4 Assumption: Sept. 25 – 2:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The No. 4 Greyhounds are on a five-game win streak and 5-1 overall. They've had four of six games decided by a single goal, including a dramatic 3-2 OT win against Bentley on Wednesday night. The Setters are 4-3 and 2-2 in the NE10, riding a two-game win streak. All three of their losses have been by 1-0 scores and they've scored at least two goals in each of their four wins.

Assumption is averaging 3.0 goals per game, led by Isabel Primack who has six goals and two assists. Mia Salah has tallied five goals and two assists while Kyle Gargiulo owns a 1.12 GAA with 35 saves and a .833 save percentage to anchor the defense. Krista Dietz and Cienna Bosher lead Pace with three goals apiece as six players have at least two goals. Grace Henderson owns a 0.99 GAA in goal with a .794 save percentage and 27 saves.


MEN'S SOCCER

No 2 Franklin Pierce at Saint Rose: Sept. 25 – 5:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Ravens look to stay unbeaten and improve to 7-0 when they travel to face the Golden Knights on Saturday. Franklin Pierce has only allowed one goal all season while scoring at least two goals in five of six contests. Saint Rose is 2-2-1 this year, but is coming off a 2-0 NE10 victory over SCSU on Wednesday. These teams last met in the 2019 NE10 Semifinals, where they went to PK's after being tied 1-1 through two overtimes. Saint Rose advanced in penalty kicks to reach its first NE10 Title Game.

Eight different players have scored for the Ravens, led by Pedro Juan Vicente with three goals and two assists. Marco Valero has been impressive with one goal and four assists. Kosta Maniatis has started four games, posting a 0.25 GAA with four saves and a .800 save percentage. Victor Henriksen leads the Golden Knights with four of the team's six goals this year. In net, Ryan Henning has posted a 1.25 GAA in four starts with a .706 save percentage and 12 saves.

Adelphi at Southern N.H.: Sept. 25 – 7:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Southern N.H. is 1-1 in NE10 play and coming off a dominant 5-1 victory over Assumption on Wednesday. The Penmen are 3-3 this year, but 3-0 when they score at least two goals. Adelphi had a slow start to the season but have won two of their past three contests, highlighted by an OT victory at New Haven on Wednesday. A win would bring the Panthers to 3-3-2 and 2-1 in the NE10.

Reigning NE10 Player of the Year Paolo Marciano leads Adelphi with three goals and three assists while Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca has three goals and two assists. Harry Beasley and Daniel De La Heras have combined to post a 2.19 GAA with 21 saves and a .600 save percentage. Freshman Alexander Reiter leads SNHU with four goals while Michael Goncalves has tallied three and Nicolas Gonzalez has four assists. Jackson Rivers has started the last three games, going 2-1 with a 1.00 GAA, ten saves and a .769 save percentage.


WOMEN'S SOCCER

Bentley at No. 3 Saint Rose: Sept. 25 – 2:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Third ranked Saint Rose will host Bentley on Saturday at the Plumeri Sports Complex in a matchup that features two programs that are unbeaten in NE10 play. The Golden Knights, reigning NE10 champions and NCAA semifinalists, enter the contest with a 5-0 overall record (2-0 NE10), while Bentley is 3-1-2 (3-0 NE10).

With 19 goals in five matches, Saint Rose leads the conference in scoring – led by Kaelyn Britt and Mia Klammer, who are tied among the league leaders in points this season (9). Bentley has a big scorer as well in Dana Goulet (four goals, one assist), in addition to one of the league's premiere goalkeepers in Kat Hassapis, the NE10 leader in save percentage (.933) and goals against average (0.33). 

Stonehill at American International: Sept. 26 – 1:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

American International, a 2019 NE10 semifinalist, will host Stonehill on Sunday in a matchup of playoff contenders from two years ago. The programs have been even in their past three meetings, going 1-1-1 in regular season contests since 2017. Stonehill (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NE10) is coming off a 1-1 draw at Saint Michael's and AIC (3-2-1, 1-2-0 NE10) had a 3-1 victory over Le Moyne this past week.

AIC's defense has allowed just 0.48 goals per game this season, third-best among NE10 teams. Gabby Williams has paced the offense with three goals. Stonehill ranks among the lowest in goals per game (1.00), but is led offensively by Camryn Thompson, who leads the league with 33 shots this season, and Peyton Nickerson who has two goals.


VOLLEYBALL

Franklin Pierce at Saint Anselm: Sept. 25 – 3:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Franklin Pierce will be playing to sustain its early-season success when it visits in-state foe Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon in the Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The Ravens are 7-4 overall (1-0 NE10) and enter the weekend on a three-match winning streak, while Saint Anselm (9-3) will be playing its first conference match of the season. The Hawks look to get back in the win column after a 3-0 loss to Stonehill on Thursday.

Franklin Pierce's Morgan Schmutzler, the reigning NE10 Libero and Rookie of the Week, ranks second among NE10 players in digs per set (5.38). Saint Anselm's Michelle Henwood ranks second in assists per set (9.83), as the Hawks lead the NE10 as a team in kills per set (13.23). Since 2016, Saint Anselm has won three of four meetings with Franklin Pierce. 

Stonehill at American International: Sept. 25 – 6:00 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

Stonehill looks to build on its momentum from Thursday's 3-0 victory over Saint Anselm when it visits American International on Saturday evening. AIC (7-5, 0-1 NE10) and Stonehill (7-5, 0-0 NE10) will meet in a rematch of their 2019 NE10 semifinal at the Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets won that match, 3-1, and advanced to the NE10 Championship final.

The Skyhawks have earned three impressive non-conference wins against NE10 opponents over the past week, beating perennial powerhouse New Haven, reigning league champion Bentley and Saint Anselm, who qualified for the NE10 Championship semifinals in 2019. AIC lost its conference-opener on the road at New Haven, but is led by reigning NE10 Player of the Year Andrea Serra and looks to grab its first conference win of the season. 


WOMEN'S TENNIS

Adelphi at Southern New Hampshire: Sept. 25 – 1:00 p.m.

Southern New Hampshire will host Adelphi on Saturday with NE10 postseason implications, as the undefeated teams meet following their participation in the ITA East Regionals in Flushing, N.Y. Adelphi is 4-0 overall (3-0 NE10), with its biggest win coming in 7-0 fashion against Stonehill – the 2021 spring NE10 runner-up. SNHU is 2-0 overall (2-0 NE10), including a 5-2 win over reigning NE10 champion Franklin Pierce.

SNHU's Natalie Kallmunzerova won the ITA East Regional Women's Singles Championship over the weekend and plays at No. 1 singles for the Penmen. Adelphi returns key players this season in Barbie Quagliardi and Amanda Franstedt, both of whom earned two First Team All-Conference selections this past spring for singles and doubles.

Franklin Pierce at New Haven: Sept. 26 – 12:00 p.m.

Defending NE10 champion Franklin Pierce gets a tough road test at New Haven on Sunday, as the Ravens look to continue building momentum after a 4-0 win over Le Moyne on Wednesday. Franklin Pierce (3-1, 3-1 NE10) beat New Haven (1-1, 1-1 NE10) in their most recent meeting in 2019 by a narrow 4-3 margin.

The Chargers advanced to the NE10 Championship quarterfinals this past spring and return Ivana Andric from that team, who was Second Team All-Conference at No. 1 singles. The Ravens return nearly their entire lineup from the spring, which saw them advance to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals – led by Maria Penalver Aguilo, the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year.
