The Weekend Preview: Jan. 14-16
Every Friday, the NE10 is going to highlight the biggest contests each weekend. It may be a big-time rivalry, matchup between two ranked teams or a battle for playoff-positioning. Fans can follow the action for every game by visiting our schedule page.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Pace at No. 25 Bentley: Jan. 15 – 3:00 p.m.­ (Live StatsVideo)

No. 25 Bentley will host Pace, one of the top teams in the Southwest Division, in NE10 play on Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center. The Falcons (10-2, 5-2 NE10) have won eight of their last nine contests, including a tight 80-78 victory against New Haven on Tuesday night. The Setters (9-4, 5-1 NE10) are coming off a home win against Assumption.

Bentley, which earned a top-25 ranking in the NABC poll this week, is led by graduate guard Jordan Mello-Klein – who is averaging 15.6 points and 6.3 assists per game this season. The Falcons are averaging a league-best 86.0 points per game. Pace is one of the top defensive teams in the league, allowing just 64.4 points per game – second-best among NE10 programs. Bryan Powell is Pace's leading scorer with 15.6 points per contest. 

Stonehill at New Haven: Jan. 15 – 3:30 p.m.­ (Live StatsVideo)

For the first time since their three-overtime classic in the 2020 NE10 semifinals, Stonehill and New Haven will meet on the hardwood Saturday afternoon – this time at the Charger Gymnasium. Stonehill (9-5, 5-3 NE10) has won two of its last three conference games, while New Haven (8-5, 4-4 NE10) will look to get back on track after a narrow 80-78 loss to No. 25 Bentley on Tuesday.

In the 2020 NE10 semifinals, New Haven – the No. 5 seed in the Southwest Division – upset Stonehill – the No. 2 seed in the Northeast Division – by a 101-100 margin after three extra periods. It was a miraculous tip-in with no time left in double overtime by Stonehill's Andrew Sims that pushed the game to a third overtime, before the Chargers came away with the road win and earned a trip to the NE10 Championship game. This year Isaiah Burnett is leading the Skyhawks with 13.6 points 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game, while Derrick Rowland is putting up 15.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for New Haven. 


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

 

Adelphi at Saint Anselm: Saturday, Jan. 15 – 1:30 p.m.­ (Live StatsVideo)

Saint Anselm will host Adelphi in NE10 action on Saturday afternoon at the Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, as the Hawks (8-5, 4-2 NE10) look to add to their stretch of five wins in the past six games. The Panthers (4-8, 2-5 NE10), under first-year head coach Sade Jackson, look to snap a two-game skid in conference play.

Senior guard Peyton Steinman leads the charge for Saint Anselm, as she currently ranks third in the NE10 in points per game (19.5) and seventh in rebounds per game (7.9). Graduate guard Emily Miccile is Adelphi's leading scorer with 13.2 points per game this season, while the Panthers have shot just 34.8-percent from the field as a team – the lowest mark among NE10 teams. 

American International at Assumption: Jan. 15 – 1:30 p.m. (Live StatsVideo)

The Greyhounds take to the court for their first game in nearly a month as they host AIC on Saturday afternoon. Assumption (5-5, 3-3 NE10) hasn't played since December 20, while the Yellow Jackets have dropped three straight as both look to start get their first win of 2022 on Saturday.

Assumption is averaging 60.3 points per game this season while shooting 36.7 percent from the floor. Monica Spain does a bit of everything for the Greyhounds with 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. AIC is averaging 59.1 points per game this year, but rank last in the NE10 with 32.2 rebounds per contest. Destine Perry is lead the team with 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game.


ICE HOCKEY

Saint Anselm at Post: Jan. 14 - 7:30 PM, Jan. 15 - 3:30 PM (Video - Live Stats)

The Eagles (5-7, 3-2 NE10) host the Hawks (4-7-1, 1-4-1) in a pair of crucial NE10 conference games on Friday and Saturday. Post has lost two of three since coming back from the Holiday break, while Saint Anslem has lost seven straight games, however, the team is 8-0 against the Eagles all-time.

The Hawks have struggled to score in conference play, ranking 6th with 2.67 goals per game and they have converted just 2 of 27 power play opportunities. Andrew Andary leads the team with 14 points overall on six goals and eight assists. The Eagles, meanwhile, are averaging 3.0 goals per game in conference play but are only 2 for 22 on the power play. They've been a balanced scoring team as six players have at least six points this year.
