NE10 Announces Revised Championship Formats for Basketball and Ice Hockey

2022 Winter Championships

2021-22 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

Ice Hockey Adds Date to Championship.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following its January 14 announcement regarding changes to winter championships, the Northeast-10 Conference announced on Thursday afternoon the new dates and formats for the upcoming Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Ice Hockey Championships, scheduled for late February and early March.

The Conference recently expanded its basketball and ice hockey tournament fields to include all programs, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to force game postponements and exhaust rescheduling dates that have impacted the entire membership. With this expansion, the NE10's basketball and ice hockey championships will take on different formats in 2022.

Both the NE10 Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will keep the same dates, with first round action beginning on Friday, February 25. Rather than two games scheduled for both the men and women, each will now play six games on that day – with only the top seed in the Northeast and Southwest Divisions earning a bye.

As originally scheduled, basketball quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, February 27. Men's basketball will play its semifinals on Wednesday, March 2, and its championship on Saturday, March 5. Women's basketball will play its semifinals on Thursday, March 3, and its championship on Sunday, March 6.

The NE10 Ice Hockey Championship has added a date to its tournament to accommodate all seven of the league's teams. Originally scheduled to be the date of the semifinals, the first round will now be played on Saturday, February 26, with only the top seed earning a bye to the semifinals on Tuesday, March 1. The Ice Hockey Championship game is still scheduled for Saturday, March 5.

Plans for the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, currently set for February 24-25 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, will come at a later date. The NE10 and its 14 member institutions remain committed to prioritizing health and safety in all 24 of the Conference's sponsored sports.
