NE10 Championship Preview: March 5-6

NE10 ICE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 4 Post at No. 3 Assumption: Mrach 5 - 6 PM

The Eagles are making the program's first-ever appearance in the NE10 Championship game in just their second official season as a conference member after taking down top seed SNHU 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday. Assumption, meanwhile is in the championship game for the second time in five seasons, after dispatching No. 7 Stonehill 5-2 in the semifinals. Assumption went 2-1 against Post this season with both wins in 2022.

Post has been hot as of late, going 5-1-1 over the last seven games while scoring at least three goals in six of those seven contests. Overall this season they are averaging 2.5 goals per game, led by eight goals and 12 assists from Patrick Murphy. They do have a balanced roster as ten different players have at least ten points. In net, Brandon Brown has posted a 9-11-2 record with a .906 save percentage and 3.33 GAA.

The Greyhounds have won four straight, after going winless in four straight earlier in February. They are averaging 3.4 goals per game and have five players with at least 15 points. Robert Holyoke and Dante Maribito have 27 points apiece this year while Devan Sheth is third with 25. In net, David Altman owns a .913 save percentage and 2.87 GAA to go with an 11-6-2 record.

NE10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 3 NE Stonehill at No. 2 NE Bentley: March 6 - 12 PM

Two familiar faces battle in Sunday's Championship game as Bentley hosts Stonehill at noon. Bentley is the two seed and earned the right to host after its 57-47 victory on the road at the top seed in the Southwest, Le Moyne. The Skyhawks, meanwhile, took down SCSU by a tight 59-56 margin, in a game that was decided in the final seconds. 

The two teams split their matchups this season, as Bentley took down Stonehill 62-51 in November, while the Skyhawks claimed a 76-73 win in early February. The Falcons have been up and down this year, though they are currently on a four-game win streak which is tied for their longest of the season. Stonehill is also on a four-game win streak, but is 11-2 over their last 13 games. The teams last met for the 2018 NE10 Championship, with Bentley winning 73-72 in overtime. 

Bentley (68.3) and Stonehill (65.7) rank second and fourth in the NE10 scoring. The Falcons rely on a balanced approach as three players average double figures, led by Autumn Ceppe with 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Guards Ella Thompson (12.3) and Kari Brekke (11.4) are close behind and the duo has combined to shoot 107-for-268 (40.0) from beyond the arc this season. The Skyhawks are led by Kayla Raymond at 19.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while Emily Bramanti is putting up 13.8 points and 4.4 assists per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

NE10 MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 2 NE Franklin Pierce at No. 1 NE Bentley: March 6 - 3 PM 

Bentley hosts Franklin Pierce as the Falcons are making their ninth appearance in the NE10 Championship game while the Ravens are making their second and are looking for the program's first NE10 Crown. Bentley has won 7 of its last 8 games, including an 81-65 victory over Saint Anselm in the Semifinals. Franklin Pierce has won 6 of 7 and advanced on Thursday thanks to a 81-75 comeback victory over the top seed in the Southwest, Pace. 

Bentley was the top seed in the Northeast while Franklin Pierce was No. 2 though the Ravens are 2-0 against the Falcons this season, including a 19-point victory just two weeks ago. Franklin Pierce and Bentley are the best two offenses in the league, averaging 82.4 and 79.4 points respectably. They also both rank in the top three in threes per game and three-point percentage. 

The Ravens are led by NE10 Player of the Year Isaiah Moore who is putting up 23.1 points, 5.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds on 51.2 percent shooting this year. Max Zegarowski has also been solid with 14.8 points and 2.4 threes per game while shooting 45.2 percent from downtown. Bentley has four players averaging between 17 and 14 points per game. Jordan Mello-Klein is the team's engine, posting 14.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game, while Colton Lawrence leads the team with 16.4 points per game.
