Adelphi Holds Lead in All Presidents' Cup Standings Following Winter Season

Adelphi - Presidents' Cup Winter 23-24

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southern Connecticut Earns League-Best 85% of Maximum Winter Points.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following the winter season, Adelphi leads in all three categories of the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup standings, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers, which led the overall and women's standings after the fall season, are now also the frontrunner in the men's standings.

Highlighting Adelphi's winter finishes were the women's indoor track & field program taking runner-up at the NE10 Championship - earning nine out of a possible 10 points - and the men's basketball team tying for second place in the conference standings to garner 10 out of a possible 12 points. Adelphi has 120.5 overall points, 51.0 men's points and 69.5 women's points, which all rank as league-highs heading into the spring season.

Southern Connecticut had a remarkable winter season, as it won both the men's and women's league titles at the NE10 Swimming & Diving Championship and the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Owls netted a conference-best 50.0 points in winter sports - nearly 10 points more than the next closest institution in Bentley (40.5). Southern Connecticut earned 85% of the maximum total points available for winter sports.

The NE10 Presidents' Cup - which now includes a men's, women's and overall champion - is presented annually at the conclusion of the academic year, signifying overall athletic excellence in the league. The honors are awarded to the institutions that compile the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular season standings from all of their programs competing in league championships.

In the overall standings, Bentley ranks second with 111.0 points, while Southern Connecticut is third (95.0), Southern New Hampshire is fourth (93.5) and Assumption is fifth (93.0). Bentley tied for first in the women's basketball standings, tied for second in the men's basketball standings and finished as runner-up for both the men and women at the NE10 Swimming & Diving Championship this winter.

On the men's side, Adelphi (51.0) holds a narrow lead over Bentley (50.0) after earning 22.0 points in winter sports. Southern Connecticut is close behind in third with 46.0 points and Franklin Pierce - the men's leader after the fall season - is fourth with 42.5 points. Southern Connecticut earned a league-high 24.5 points behind first-place finishes in swimming and indoor track.

On the women's side, Adelphi (69.5) maintained its lead over Southern New Hampshire (62.5), while Bentley is in close pursuit in third place (61.0). Southern New Hampshire outscored Adelphi in the winter by two points to cut into the deficit from the fall, using a third-place finish by its women's team at the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Adelphi builds off its lead from the fall season, which saw it win NE10 Championship titles in both men's golf and women's tennis, while earning a regular season title in volleyball and a pair of second-place finishes in women's soccer and women's cross country. The Panthers also captured third-place finishes in women's golf, men's soccer and men's cross country.

Adelphi, Assumption and Bentley are the only three NE10 institutions to appear in the top five of all three sets of standings related to the NE10 Presidents' Cup.

SNHU is the reigning two-time Presidents' Cup champion, while Adelphi and Bentley rounded-out the top three in the 2022-23 overall standings.
