Northeast-10 Announces Woman of the Year Finalists

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 announced the three finalists for the conference's prestigious Woman of the Year Award today. The finalists are:Shannon Gagne from The University of New Haven,Logan Lentz of Southern Connecticut State University, and Emily Rousseau representing Stonehill College. The winner of the award will be announced at the conference's year-end banquet on Tuesday, June 7th in Providence, R.I.

Gagne recently returned from the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships where she won two national championships in taking the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Earlier this year, she won three national titles at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet, becoming only the third student-athlete in Division II history to win five national titles in the sport.

Gagne is pursuing her master's in national security, and has a 3.95 grade point average. She received her undergraduate degree, majoring in criminal justice, with a 3.93 GPA. Gagne was named to the Dean's List each semester during her time at New Haven, and was the school's Hatfield Scholar Recipient, which is awarded for competitive scholarship for honors students only. Gagne was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll each semester she was eligible, and was the Northeast-10 Scholar Athlete Excellence Award recipient in 2011. She was named the USTFCCCA National Division II Indoor Track and Field Women's Athlete of the Year this year. She is the head volunteer for the school's legal society and volunteers at the West Haven Community House, serving as a student mentor.

Lentz is a member of the women's basketball team with a 3.95 GPA majoring in exercise science. She is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee, and was a two-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Lentz was named to the NE-10 Women's

Basketball All-Academic team three times, and was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll each time she was eligible to be honored. Lentz was awarded the Henry Barnhard Award, which is the highest honor for any senior in the Connecticut state university system, and she was named the 2011 So. Connecticut Scholar-Athlete Award winner. She also has participated in a number of volunteer activities, including food drives, basketball clinics, and other service projects.

Rousseau is a member of the women's basketball team with a 3.64 GPA majoring in finance. She is a two-time Capital One Academic All-District selection, and is an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship candidate. Rousseau was named the 2011 Edward E. Martin Outstanding Student-Athlete at Stonehill, and was a two-time All-Conference selection.

She was named a Division II honorable mention All-America by the WBCA and was also named to the 2010 NE-10 All-Championship team. Rousseau has volunteered for many youth clinics during her time at Stonehill and has helped Alzheimer patients at the New England Sinai Adult Day Care Center.

The Northeast-10 Woman of the Year Award is selected by the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) Council. The winner of the award will be forwarded as the conference's nominee for the NCAA National Woman of the Year Award.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
