Christina Cuffari of The College of Saint
Rose and Assumption College senior Nick
DiAntonio (pictured) have been named the 2011-12
Northeast-10 Conference Outstanding Scholar-Athletes of the
Year.
The two student-athletes were recognized at the Northeast-10
Awards Banquet Tuesday night in Portsmouth, N.H. after being
selected by a committee made up of faculty members and athletic
administrators.
Cuffari, an integral member of the women’s soccer team at
Saint Rose, helped the Golden Knights claim the 2011 NCAA Division
II Women’s Soccer Championship this past December. Saint Rose
also made three appearances in the national semifinals throughout
her playing career prior to winning the national title last fall.
The Brick, N.J. native was also named the Northeast-10 Player of
the Year as well as the 2011 East Region Player of the Year after
totaling eight goals and 13 assists for 29 points during her senior
season.
Cuffari has a 3.73 grade point average and was selected as a
Capital One First Team All-American each of the past two years.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
also named her a First Team Scholar All-American this past fall
after being chosen as a Second Team Scholar All-American in
2010.
She was also named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the
Year Tuesday evening.
DiAntonio recently completed his career as a member of the
football team at Assumption. A team captain for the
Greyhounds, he was named to the 2011 Northeast-10 First Team on the
field after recording 106 tackles, including a 21-tackle
performance against Southern Connecticut State University, which
tied a school record. He also finished the season ranked 13th
in the nation in tackles per game (10.60).
Off the field, he was a unanimous choice as an Academic
All-Conference selection, and also received the Northeast-10
Football Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award.
DiAntonio, a native of Milford, Mass., was the Valedictorian for
Assumption’s Class of 2012 and was honored as a member of the
National Football Foundation “Hampshire Honor Society,”
which recognizes the top senior scholar-athletes in all levels of
collegiate football.
He also was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, a
prestigious award given to the top senior-athletes nationwide as
well as the Rev. Armand Desautels A.A. Memorial Award, which is
given annually to Assumption’s top senior
student-athlete.
A double major in math and secondary education, DiAntonio graduated with a 4.0 GPA and currently attends Boston College, where he will pursue a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
