100 Student-Athletes Earn Prestigious Honor from League Office
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference teams for the 2013-14 spring athletic season, and a total of 100 student-athletes have been honored with the recognition.
Each of the conference’s 15 member institutions had at least one student-athlete selected for this prestigious honor.
For a complete list of the Academic All-Conference selections, which are chosen by a committee vote of Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) and other athletic administrators, please see below.
The 100 student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field in baseball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field.
To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
Of the 100 student-athletes that were selected, it marked at least the second time receiving the honor for 30 of the young men and women, while six were selected for the third time during their careers.
Those six student-athletes to receive academic all-conference honors for the third time are: Devan Crimi, Adelphi University; Tanya Robidoux, Assumption College, Megan Collins andSarah Harrison, Le Moyne College; Phoebe Clark, Southern New Hampshire University; and A.J. Guerra, Southern Connecticut State University
Quite remarkably, four of the nine sports conference ‘players of the year’ were selected to the academic all-conference team, as well. Adelphi’s Katie Andrews (softball) and Devan Crimi (women’s lacrosse), American International College’s Cassio Schwab, pictured, (men’s tennis), and the University of New Haven’s Ada Udaya (women’s track and field) all were tabbed to receive both honors.
Also, among those student-athletes that were selected for NE-10
Academic All-Conference was three members of Adelphi’s
national-title winning women’s lacrosse team, including NCAA
Most Outstanding Player Alexa
Froccaro.
Bentley University led the way with 13 selections, representing
eight of the nine spring sports, while Adelphi and Stonehill
College each had 12 student-athletes selected.
New Haven had 11 honorees, while Le Moyne had ten student-athletes named Academic All-Conference.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes.
Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference
championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII
conference in the country in terms of sports sponsorship. Leading
the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community,
the Northeast-10 Conference is proud of its comprehensive program
and the experience it provides student-athletes.
