Panthers Claim Top Spot; Bentley Takes Second
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Adelphi University has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents’ Cup for the 2015-16 academic year, it was revealed at the league’s annual year-end banquet on Monday evening.
It is the third NE-10 Presidents’ Cup for the Panthers in the last four years. Adelphi had previously won the award back-to-back during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons before finishing as the runner-up last year.

“Congratulations to all the student-athletes, coaches and administrators at Adelphi University on claiming the Presidents’ Cup,” said Northeast-10 Commissioner Julie Ruppert. “It is a tremendous accomplishment to have such success in a 15-team league as competitive as the Northeast-10. To earn this honor requires tremendous dedication and commitment from the entire campus community, and the entire Adelphi family should share in the celebration of this accomplishment.
Adelphi, which garnered 194 total points on the year, had the highest point totals among NE-10 schools during both the fall and spring seasons. Its highest point total came during the fall, as the Panthers collected 89 points led by their NE-10 Champion volleyball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis teams. In addition to winning both the regular season title and Northeast-10 Championship in those three sports, Adelphi also earned a share of the regular season title in field hockey and tied for second in the men’s soccer regular season standings.
During the winter season, Adelphi compiled 34 points with its men’s basketball team leading the way with a second-place finish in the Southwest Division standings.
Finally, the Panthers took full control with another strong spring season, racking up 71 points to secure the Presidents’ Cup. Highlighting its spring performance was the Panthers’ women’s lacrosse team, which cruised to the regular season crown before winning its third straight NE-10 Championship. The Panthers also earned a share of the Southwest Division title in both baseball and softball, finished third in the regular season standings in both men’s lacrosse and men’s tennis, while also finishing fifth in women’s outdoor track & field.
Bentley University finished as the runner-up with a total of 176 points on the year, moving up from a sixth-place finish a year ago. Defending Presidents’ Cup winner Stonehill College came in third, just behind Bentley with 173 points, while Merrimack College took fourth place for the third straight year with 170.5 points.
Rounding out the top five was Southern New Hampshire University with 160 total points, jumping up three spots from eighth place last year. Sixth was Assumption College with 147.5 points, followed by Le Moyne College in seventh with 141. Completing the top-10 were Franklin Pierce University (140 pts.), American International College (135.5) and Southern Connecticut State University (132.5).
The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10. The honor is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships.
Points for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, and men's and women’s golf are awarded based on placement in those sports’ respective conference championships.
