2012 – 2013 Year in Review
- The Northeast-10 Conference sponsored championships in 23 sports during the 2012-2013 academic school year. 4,245 student-athletes participated in NE-10 Championships during the year. Stonehill led the way with four conference championships, UMass Lowell, New Haven, Southern Connecticut, and New Haven each won three NE-10 crowns. - Le Moyne’s Men’s Lacrosse team and Southern Connecticut’s Amanda Thomas won national titles during the 2012-2013 academic year. Thomas won her third consecutive national title in the 200-yard Individual Medley at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in March, while Le Moyne took home the hardware in Philadelphia, Pa. in May. - Eight programs representing the NE-10 Conference advanced to at least the National Quarterfinals of their respective sports during the 2012-2013 school year (see following page). Le Moyne’s Men’s Lacrosse team won a national title, while UMass Lowell’s Field Hockey team advanced to the national finals.
In March, Southern Connecticut’s Amanda Thomas capped off her storied career with her fourth national title at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. Thomas won the 200-‐ yard individual medley for the third consecutive year, and was recognized as the NCAA Swimmer of the Meet for the second consecutive year. Following her collegiate career as one of the most decorated swimmers in NCAA Division II history, Thomas was tabbed to host the second installment of ‘This is the Northeast-‐10’ for the conference. Her performance in front of the camera rivaled that of her efforts in the water.

- In October, the NCAA released Division II graduation rate information, including the division's Academic Success Rate (ASR). 13 of the Northeast-10 Conference's 16 member institutions surpassed the national average. Seven members achieved an ASR of 90% or better, with Saint Michael's (98%), Stonehill (97%), and Assumption (95%) all among the top ten nationally. Saint Michael's ASR of 98% ranks them fourth in all of Division II, while Stonehill's total of 97% places them tied for fifth. - A total of 155 student-athletes during the fall and winter semesters were Academic All-Conference selections. To be eligible for this distinction, a studentathlete must possess at least a 3.30 grade point average and have participated in at least half of the team’s competitions and be a significant contributor. Women’s soccer led the way with 21 honorees, with women’s lacrosse in second place with 21 Academic AllConference selections. - Bentley led the way with 21 Academic All-Conference selections, followed by Southern Connecticut (19) and Stonehill (17). Each of the conference’s 16 members had at least four studentathletes recognized with this honor.
- 3,186 student-athletes in the fall semester, representing each of the conference’s 16 member institutions, achieved grade point averages of 3.0 or above during the 2012-13 school year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. That number comprises 53.5% of all student-athletes in Northeast-10 sponsored sports, and marks an increase of more than 250 studentathletes from last year at the same time. - Of the nearly 3,200 student-athletes that were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Fall, 138 achieved a perfect grade point average of 4.0 and 45% (1,434) had a GPA of at least 3.5. - Adelphi University graduate Erika Loomer, a former volleyball student-athlete, was awarded an NCAA Women's Enhancement Program Postgraduate scholarship. The NCAA awarded 13 women's enhancement program postgraduate scholarships. Of the 213 women selected, Loomer was the only Division II athlete selected, and one of just two non Division-I recipients.
Kyra Meli The College of Saint Rose The College of Saint Rose sophomore back Kyra Meli was recognized at the 2012 Women’s Soccer Championship as the winner of the NCAA’s Elite 89™ award. The award pays tribute to the studentathlete at every NCAA Championship with the highest overall grade point average of any of the competitors participating at the championship event. Meli helped the Golden Knights advance to the National Semifinals after defeating West Chester, 4-1 in a quarterfinal game. Saint Rose was defeated by eventual national champion West Florida in the National Semifinals, 2-1, and ended the year with a mark of 20-3-2.

Team IMPACT Partnership In October, the Northeast-10 Conference entered into a working partnership with Team IMPACT to support, encourage, and promote the non-profit organization. Currently, 12 NE-10 members have made 40 matches with Team IMPACT students and as you can see from some of the photos below, the results so far have been awesome.
- The Northeast-10 and its 6,000+ studentathletes continued to be a force in the community during the 2012-13 academic year. - During the year, NE-10 student-athletes volunteered for a number of causes in their communities. Among those efforts supported by our student-athletes were: -- Food drives -- Helping out at clinics with schools and local children -- Local walks and 5K’s -- Raising money for Make-A-Wish -- Support in the wake of Superstorm Sandy -- Susan G. Komen Foundation -- Team IMPACT - In April, Tucker Mullin, a senior forward on the Saint Anselm men's ice hockey team, was selected as the recipient of the Hockey Humanitarian Award. The Award is awarded annually to college hockey's finest citizen and seeks to recognize college hockey players who give back to their communities in the true humanitarian spirit. Mullin was nominated as a result of his many charitable endeavors that he has undertaken over the previous four seasons. The senior forward co-founded the Thomas E. Smith Fight to Cure Paralysis foundation, a non-profit organization, which benefits those affected by and living with paralysis through emotional and financial support.

• Six teams, and student-athletes from five additional programs, represented the Northeast-10 at the 2012 NCAA Championship meet. Adelphi, Saint Rose, and Stonehill’s women’s teams as well as American Int’l, Bentley, and Stonehill’s men’s teams all competed at the meet. • American Int’l’s Jeptui Cherutich and UMass Lowell’s Jeff Veiga were named the East Region Athletes of the Year. Adelphi’s Katie Rees and Bentley’s Kevin Curtin were recognized as Region Coaches of the Year. • In November, Stonehill raised over $1,500 to donate to Joplin, Mo. And the Missouri Southern Tornado Relief Fund.

• Three teams representing the Northeast-10 Conference were selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Bentley, UMass Lowell, and Merrimack all competed, with the River Hawks advancing to the national title game. They fell to West Chester in the national finals. • The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named 12 studentathletes from the NE-10 Longstretch All-Americans. Four were First Team honorees, including Player of the Year, Rachel McCarthy. • Merrimack’s Candace Waldie was selected as a Division II Woman of the Year finalist by the CWSA. • LIU Post will become an associate member in the sport beginning in 2013.

• New Haven won the inaugural NE10 Championship game over American International this past fall. The Chargers also earned a first-round bye and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Championship. • New Haven head coach Peter Rossomando was named the 2012 Division II Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. • Six Northeast-10 student-athletes signed NFL deals or received minicamp invitations following April’s NFL Draft. Two notable signings were New Haven WR Jason Thompson (Redskins) and Merrimack WR Isaiah Voegeli (Eagles). • LIU Post will join the NE-10 as an associate member in 2013.

• Bentley’s Matt Michel and Dan McQueen both earned Capital One Academic All-District At-Large honors. • Matt Michel was honored with the prestigious Guy Tedesco Award by the NEIGA back in October. • Adelphi freshman Ryan Snouffer was named the 2012 Northeast10 Player and Rookie of the Year after shooting a match low 7370—143 at the conference championship.

The Penmen advanced to the East Regional final, falling to Mercyhurst in the National Quarterfinal round. • Three student-athletes were named to the Capital One Academic All America team. • Saint Anselm won their fourth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference championship in March. • Saint Anselm’s Tucker Mullin was awarded the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award at the NCAA Frozen Four in March. He became just the third non-Division I winner of the award in its 18-year history. Mullin, a three-time finalist, earned the award for his charitable work as the co-founder of the Thomas E. Smith Fight to Cure Paralysis Foundation, as well as his commitment to and work with Team IMPACT. • Southern New Hampshire’s ice hockey team helped raise $1,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, through their association with Team IMPACT.

Le Moyne College NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONS NCAA National CHAMPIONS
• Le Moyne capped off their remarkable season with 10 consecutive wins, including the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and the National Title. The title game was played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. in front of an estimated 8,000 fans. The Dolphins defeated Mercyhurst, 1110, in the title game. • Two teams from the Northeast-10 received bids to participate in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Both Adelphi and Le Moyne advanced to the national semifinals as Le Moyne went on to win the title. • Merrimack’s Corey Lunney was named USILA National Player of the Year, and 12 student-athletes representing the NE-10 were named All-Americans.

• Three teams from the Northeast10 were selected to compete at the 2013 NCAA Championship. Adelphi, New Haven, and Southern Connecticut all won at least one game during the tournament with Adelphi advancing to the East Super Regional Finals. • Assumption’s Tanya Robidoux and Southern Connecticut’s Brittany Bucko both earned Capital One Academic All District recognition for their efforts on the field and in the classroom. • It was a season of ‘firsts’ in the NE-10, as it marked the first year the teams used Divisional play and the first year the conference championship was a single elimination event.

• Two teams representing the Northeast-10 competed at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Both Merrimack and Southern New Hampshire earned bids. The Warriors advanced to the second round, while the Penmen lost in round one. • Merrimack finished the NE-10 portion of their schedule undefeated for the second consecutive season. • The ITA named Bentley’s Jimmy Rindo the winner of the 2012-13 East Region Arthur Ashe Award. The award recognizes sportsmanship and leadership. He became the third Bentley player in the last four years to win the award.

And the award goes to… PLAYER OF THE YEAR Alena Mukdaprakorn – Southern New Hampshire
• Southern New Hampshire finished the Northeast-10 portion of its schedule undefeated. • The ITA named Stonehill’s Paige Frost the National Winner of the 2012-13 Arthur Ashe Award. The award recognizes sportsmanship and leadership in the sport. Frost also was the East Region recipient of the award. • Mukdaprakorn was named NE-10 Player of the Year for the second straight season.

• 44 student-athletes representing eight schools from the Northeast10 Conference were selected to compete at the 2013 NCAA Championship Meet. • 33 student-athletes achieved AllAmerican status at the NCAA Championship meet in Pueblo, Colo. in May. American International’s Glarius Rop had two 2nd place finishes at the Championships (5,000 meters & 10,000 meters).
