WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven baseball team participated in the Colin's Crew Polar Dip on Saturday, February 22 at Savin Rock Park. For the second consecutive year, the Chargers were supporting their six-year-old teammate and honorary captain Colin, who joined the team through Team IMPACT.

The Chargers were among a record 160 plungers who dove into the Long Island Sound and collectively helped raise nearly $16,000 to send eight families to Camp Sunshine, a retreat in Casco, Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Colin and his family were fixtures at games and team events throughout last season after being drafted by the Chargers in October 2012. Colin and his sister, Maddie, both threw out the first pitch at the Chargers' NCAA East Region Championship game vs. Wilmington in May, 2013. In 2014, Colin will once again be an important part of the team's enthusiasm and energy as the Chargers look to defend their Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

About Colin's Crew
Colin's Crew was originally formed to provide financial and emotional support to the Westbrook family of Wallingford, Conn. Colin Westbrook, son of Heather and Michael, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October 2009, just days after his second birthday.

Colin, along with his parents and little sister Maddison, attended Camp Sunshine for a week-long vacation in July 2010. "Because of Camp Sunshine, our family was able to take a family vacation like no other. The volunteer staff was wonderful and being able to share stories and bond with other families in the same situation was truly amazing," said Michael.

As Colin continues to do well, Colin's Crew is now organizing a fundraising event with Camp Sunshine to help other families in the same situation as the Westbrook family.
