Penmen, Owls clinch No. 1 championship seeds 

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University and Southern Connecticut State University have clinched the No. 1 seeds in the upcoming 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship, which gets underway Wednesday, May 7 with single-elimination first-round play at higher seeds.

The four-team, double-elimination Championship Weekend (May 9-11) will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the Northeast-10 Northeast Division following Wednesday's do-or-die first round.

So. New Hampshire (35-12, 15-6 NE Div.) earned a share the Northeast Division regular-season title with Franklin Pierce University (35-15, 15-6 NE) and received the top seed in the division via tiebreaker, while Franklin Pierce garners the second seed.

So. New Hampshire will draw fourth-seeded Bentley University (22-17, 13-8 NE) at 3:00 p.m. in Wednesday's first-round, while Franklin Pierce hosts third-seeded Stonehill College (28-18, 13-8 NE) at 4:00 p.m. with trips to Championship Weekend at stake.

So. Connecticut (24-14-1, 13-5 SW) earned the Northeast-10 Southwest Division regular-season title and will host fourth-seeded Adelphi University (21-21, 9-9 SW) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The University of New Haven (22-11, 12-6 SW) earned the second seed and will welcome third-seeded Le Moyne College (19-22, 10-8 SW) in the first round at 2:00 p.m.

In advance of Wednesday's first-round play, the conference office will release the 2014 Baseball All-Conference Teams and major award winners on Wednesday morning at northeast10.org.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
