COLCHESTER, Vt. - Former Saint Michael's College baseball interim head coach Matt Rodovick has been hired as the program's head coach, assistant director of athletics Meggan Dulude '07 announced on Friday. Rodovick spent this spring as the pitching coach at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Geri Knortz, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Zaf Bludevich, Assistant Director of Athletics Meggan Dulude and the hiring committee for giving me the opportunity to be the head baseball coach at Saint Michael's College," said Rodovick. "I'm looking forward to being back with the program. We have a great group of returning players, and I believe we have a solid foundation in place. My job is to build upon that and create a winning culture here."

Rodovick was a member of the Saint Michael's coaching staff during parts of the previous three school years, including serving as the program's interim head coach in the spring of 2012. Rodovick guided the Purple Knights to 11 victories that year, including helping the team upset nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University, 5-3, on May 3 during the program's first year back in the Northeast-10 Conference since 1998.

"We are very excited to welcome Matt back to the Saint Michael's College coaching staff," said Dulude. "Matt has a true passion for the game and is able to connect well with our student-athletes. We will look for him to continue to mold our baseball team into a perennial contender in the very competitive Northeast-10 Conference."

In 2011, Rodovick joined the team as its pitching coach, and the Purple Knights trimmed their previous year's earned run average by 2.25 while improving upon their strikeouts per nine innings. The 2012 squad posted the program's highest win total in three years, and Rodovick worked with the team during the fall portion of the 2012-13 school year before becoming the pitching coach at SUNY Plattsburgh. During his time with the Cardinals, he helped convert one of the team's relief hurlers into an all-conference and all-region starter.

Rodovick has been the pitching coach for the Colchester Cannons American Legion Baseball team for the past three summers, helping the program win a pair of state titles while compiling a 70-38-1 aggregate mark. The Cannons are currently amid competition in the Northeast Regional Tournament in Middletown, Conn.

The pitching coach for two springs at Drury High School in North Adams, Mass., Rodovick played at the University of Massachusetts before transferring to Springfield College, graduating with a degree in communications and sports journalism in 2006. The Stamford, Vt., native went 9-3 in three seasons for the Pride. While in college, he played summer baseball for the North Adams SteepleCats of the prestigious New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). Rodovick, who works as a behavior interventionist at HowardCenter, resides in Burlington.
