Third League Championship in Last Seven Seasons for Greyhounds.
MANSFIELD, Mass. - For the first time in five years, Assumption has won the Northeast-10 Conference Football Championship following a 6-1 conference record during the 2022 season. It is the third league title for the Greyhounds since 2015 and the first for the program under head coach Andy McKenzie.
After Assumption edged reigning NE10 champion New Haven, 14-13, on October 29, the Greyhounds earned the crucial head-to-head tiebreaker against the Chargers - which gave them the advantage when both teams finished with 6-1 records in league play. Assumption finished the season on a four-game winning streak, including a dominant 65-21 non-conference win over Post on Saturday.
The Greyhounds did it all with the ground game and defense, as they led all NE10 teams this season in rushing touchdowns (17), yards per rush (4.6) and interceptions (15). Assumption allowed only 15.0 points per game - second-best in the NE10 and eighth in NCAA Division II.
In the latest NCAA Regional Rankings, Assumption was selected No. 2 among all teams in Super Region 1. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on ncaa.com, where the Greyhounds will earn their first trip to the NCAA Championship since 2017, which is when the program boasted record-breaking standouts Deonte Harty and Cole Tracy.
