Overtime Upsets Send Adelphi and Pace to NE10 Field Hockey Championship

FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

No. 4 Adelphi Advances to Second Consecutive NE10 Championship and will host No. 7 Pace.


MANSFIELD, Mass. – No. 4 Adelphi and No. 7 Pace both pulled off double-overtime victories as the lower seed in their respective contests - Adelphi knocked off the top seeded Saint Anselm Hawks 2-1, and Pace defeated the No. 6 seeded New Haven Chargers, 3-2. The two teams will compete for the NE10 Title on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the campus of Adelphi University. This marks Adelphi's consecutive appearance in the NE10 Championship, while the Setters are making first-ever trip in the final game. 

Postseason admission in all rounds of NE10 fall championships will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. Current NE10 students, with valid ID, will be admitted free of charge.


#4 Adelphi 2, #1 Saint Anselm 1 (2OT) – Adelphi Recap – Box Score 

MANCHESTER, N.H. – As the second-half whistle blew, only three minutes in, the Hawks (14-6) put one into the back of the cage off a rebound shot that was scored by Amanda Lewandowski to give Saint Anselm the lead. The Hawks finished the third quarter unleashing six shots, going into the fourth period.

A pass from junior Kylie Peregoy that was about 35 feet long was sent into the Hawks' defensive zone and was tapped in by Deleva to tie the game up at one in the fourth quarter. The Brown and Gold had two more chances late in the last few minutes of regulation but were unsuccessful in the end - having the contest go into overtime.

The first overtime was quiet on both offensive sides. A couple of penalty corner opportunities for the Cats but none were successful in leading toward a game-winning goal as the contest would go into the second overtime period.

At the 72:03 mark, off a penalty corner that has brought much success to the Panthers' scoring this season, was notched in by Deleva who was assisted from Lee to bring the Panthers (12-8) to the NE10 Championship.


#7 Pace 3, #6 New Haven 2 (2OT) - Pace Recap - Box Score

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Setter sophomore forward Krista Dietz scored the opening goal for Pace, taking a pass from classmate Noëlle Meij to the backboard in the 19th minute. The goal was Dietz' 12th on the season. The goal kept the Setters up 1-0 going into halftime. Pace (13-7) had outshot New Haven (9-11), 5-2.

Coming in from the break, the Setters needed less than four minutes to get a second goal on the board, this one coming from freshman midfielder Tavia Flecksteiner assisted by Dietz. Flecksteiner lifted the over New Haven keeper Keira Integlia who had gone down on the ground to intercept Dietz' pass in front of the goal.

New Haven answered with goals by Abby Nixon and Kat Trammel, who scored the game-tying goal with less than four minutes to go in regulation. Nixon's first goal for New Haven was scored less than two minutes into the final period.

In the first overtime, Pace got off six shots and four penalty corners but was unsuccessful. New Haven took four shots, but freshman goalkeeper Alina Buerger saved each one of them.

Demars' goal came at 87:35, as she tipped in a cross pass from Dietz to win the game in the second overtime. It was Demars' sixth goal of the season.
