Silva Becomes Second Adelphi Men's Basketball Player to Accomplish the Feat.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - For only the second time in the program's rich history, the Adelphi men's basketball team has a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Last Thursday, Ronnie Silva was honored as a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American and joined Michael Coffey as one of the only two men's basketball players to achieve the feat.

Coffey was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team in 2016-17 and followed that up with a third-team honor in 2017-18.

"I am truly humbled and honored to be receiving this award. I would like to thank all of my professors and advisors for their guidance, as well as my coaches for pushing me to work hard in the classroom. To those who support and believe in me, I couldn't have achieved this without you," Silva said.

Silva has run the point for the Panthers the last two years and possesses career averages of 18.4 points and 4.3 assists per game, to go along with a career .452 field-goal and .410 three-point field goal percentage.

His 3.63 cumulative grade-point average as a Sport Management major doesn't pale in comparison either.

As a sophomore, Silva was one of only three players in the NE10 to average more than 20 points per game. He scored at a clip of 21.6 points per contest and finished the year as the conference's No. 3 assist leader with a team- and career-high 147 dimes. His 624 points and 106 made three-point field goals in 2019-20 now rank as the program's second-highest single-season totals in those categories.

Silva ultimately earned his first selections to the NE10 All-Conference and All-Met First Team and NABC All-District Second Team for his efforts.
