High Seeds Hold Suit in First Round of NE10 Men's Basketball Championship

Quarterfinals Set for Sunday.


MANSFIELD, Mass. - All high seeds won in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday night, setting up a quarterfinal bracket on Sunday with the top eight seeds in the tournament. Two of the games were decided by less than 10 points, including a one-possession game between No. 6 Le Moyne and No. 11 Saint Michael's. 

Friday's five winners will join the top-seeded teams in the Championship - No. 1 Southern New Hampshire, No. 2 Saint Anselm and No. 3 Bentley - in the next round. All games in the NE10 Championship will be live streamed on NE10 NOW - the Conference's digital streaming platform.


No. 4 New Haven 69, No. 13 American International 51 - Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Ty Perry and Davontrey Thomas combined for 36 points to lead No. 4 New Haven to a 69-51 win over No. 13 American International in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday. The Chargers advance to Sunday's quarterfinals to host crosstown rival Southern Connecticut. 

New Haven shot 50-percent from the field as a team (25-of-50), outscoring AIC by nine points in each half. The Yellow Jackets were led by Justice Ellison with 16 points. 


No. 5 Southern Connecticut 85, No. 12 Saint Rose 71 - Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - No. 5 Southern Connecticut men's basketball defeated No. 12 Saint Rose, 85-71, in it Northeast-10 Conference Championship first round matchup at James Moore Field House. With the win, the Owls improve to 18-11 on the year and will advance to the NE10 Championship quarterfinals. The Owls will head to West Haven, Conn. to face tournament No. 4 seeded New Haven on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m.

Logan Bagshaw became the Owls leading scorer with a season-high 18 points after an outstanding first half where he went 5-for-7 from behind the three-point line and picked up four rebounds. Marty Silvera notched 14 points and had a team-leading nine assists. Zack Penn tabbed 12 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Penn has recorded a double-double each of the last three games, and six times in the last seven games. Sean James and Ulyen Coleman had 10 points apiece. 


No. 6 Le Moyne 77, No. 11 Saint Michael's 74 - Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Four players scored in double figures for No. 6 Le Moyne, leading the Dolphins to a 77-74 win over No. 11 Saint Michael's in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday. Nate McClure tallied a team-high 15 points in the victory.

The Dolphins shot 51-percent (26-of-51) from the field as a team to hold off a second-half charge from the Purple Knights. CJ Crews scored a game-high 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Saint Michael's. 

Le Moyne advances to play at No. 3 Bentley on Sunday in the NE10 quarterfinals. 


No. 7 Pace 72, No. 10 Adelphi 51 - Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Pace held Adelphi to less than 30-percent shooting as a team in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday, cruising to a 72-51 win and advancing to Sunday's quarterfinal round against No. 2 Saint Anselm. 

Bryan Powell and Lyron Bennett each scored a game-high 16 points for the Setters, who outscored the Panthers by a 41-25 margin in the second half. Elijah Lewis netted a team-high 15 points for Adelphi. 


No. 8 Franklin Pierce 81, No. 9 Assumption 74 - Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. - Despite a 26-point effort from Assumption's Isiah Gaiter, No. 8 Franklin Pierce was able to fight-off the No. 9 Greyhounds by an 81-74 margin in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday night to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round. 

The Ravens were led by Mohamed Traore with 23 points, while Sean Trumper added 19 points. Franklin Pierce will travel to play top-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the next round.
