On This Date: Assumption Men's Lacrosse Punches Ticket to NE10 Tournament For Second Time in History

Assumption Men's Lacrosse

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Garrett Smith Scores OT Winner Against Saint Rose.

"On This Date" in 2015, Assumption men's lacrosse clinched a Northeast-10 Conference playoff berth for just the second time in program history after an 8-7 overtime win at Saint Rose, behind a game-winning goal by senior attacker Garrett Smith.

For the Greyhounds, the 2015 season marked the first time they were in the NE10 Tournament since 2011. The win over the Golden Knights that day was part of a strong finish for the Greyhounds, who were 7-2 in their final nine games of the regular season to clinch their spot in the postseason.

Smith recorded a hat trick against Saint Rose, with his third goal sending the Greyhounds to a victory in the extra period and sealing a playoff spot for the first time under then-head coach Keith Loftis. Smith remains the program's all-time leader in goals scored (135) and tied for third in career points (152).

Assumption finished with a 6-5 record in NE10 play in 2015, the best league record for the school since men's lacrosse became an NE10 sponsored sport in 1994. The Greyhounds were ranked fifth in the NE10 Tournament and lost in the first round to fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce.
