Sheehan Has Won Five NCAA Titles at Le Moyne.
"On This Date" in 2012, Le Moyne men's lacrosse head coach Dan Sheehan won his 200th career game with the Dolphins, becoming the first coach to hit that milestone since the creation of the Division II level in 1974.
Eight years ago in a road game at Saint Anselm, the Dolphins won a 9-2 contest to finish regular season play with an undefeated Northeast-10 Conference record for the 12th time in 13 years under Sheehan. Junior attacker Tyler Prevost tallied five points in the victory over the Hawks.
Sheehan, who was in his 15th season at Le Moyne, had already won three national championships (2004, 2006, 2007) prior to his 200th career victory. In 2012, the Dolphins were 17-1 and won the NE10 Championship, before falling in the national semifinals to Limestone.
Now in his 23rd season with the Dolphins in 2020, he has accounted for two more national titles (2013, 2016) for a total of five. His career record, following the shortened spring season, is a remarkable 318-54 (.855). Entering the season, he had the 16th-most career victories by a coach in the history of NCAA lacrosse.
The Le Moyne men's lacrosse program's five NCAA titles are tied for the second-most in Division II history – tied with Limestone and trailing only Adelphi (7). Sheehan's success over the past two decades has catapulted the Dolphins into becoming a national power.
