ALBANY, N.Y.Alex Williams has been named the head men's lacrosse coach at The College of Saint Rose. He becomes the program's fifth head coach and brings six years of NCAA Division II coaching experience to the Golden Knights program.

"A new era of Saint Rose men's lacrosse has begun and we're thrilled to have Alex Williams leading the way for our Golden Knights. He brings instant credibility with his success as a student-athlete and coach. Alex is passionately driven and focused on establishing a championship caliber program built on relationships through accountability, trust, chemistry, and a commitment to be the best on and off the field," said Lori Anctil, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics. "Alex has a well-deserved reputation and proven track record of recruiting and developing talented players of high character who succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community. He possesses a tireless work ethic and a clear vision for excellence."

Williams spent the past three years as the First Assistant Coach at fellow NCAA Division II member Frostburg State in Maryland where he helped lead the Bobcats to a 22-10 overall record, including an 11-2 mark against Division II institutions.

"I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to be the next Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Saint Rose. I want to thank Lori Anctil and the entire search committee for their belief in me to lead this program. I am excited to work with great young men and continue to build on a strong foundation, while competing in the Northeast-10 Conference, the best conference in Division II lacrosse. I would also like to thank Head Coach Steve Gartelman and Athletic Director Troy Dell for their continued support and mentorship during my time at Frostburg State," said Williams. "Let's go Golden Knights!"

Williams' duties with the Bobcats focused on the defensive side of the field along with faceoffs and extra-man and man-down situations. His efforts helped Frostburg State finish second in the country in caused turnovers per game and eighth in scoring defense this past spring.

The Bobcats also produced a pair of 2021 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Americans, five USILA North All-Region players, and 11 East Coast Conference All-League performers, including the Defender and Rookie of the Year. Frostburg State was also ranked #12 in the USILA National Coaches Poll.

Prior to his tenure with the Bobcats, Williams was the First Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester from November of 2016 to January of 2019.

The Redhawks won 10 games during his time with them. Williams played a crucial role in developing and executing successful faceoff and man-down defensive units, and his recruiting efforts increased the roster from 22 to 34 student-athletes.

Williams earned his master's degree in sports management from Frostburg State this past spring. He obtained his bachelor's from Roberts Wesleyan in cross disciplinary studies with a concentration in business administration in 2015.

Williams was a four-year starter for the Redhawk lacrosse team from 2012-15. As a senior, Williams started all 14 contests with 21 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. He started 14 games and scooped up 18 ground balls throughout his junior campaign.
