Embrace the Victory: Golden Knights & Greyhounds Advance to NE10 Championship

No. 5 Assumption and No. 6 Saint Rose Advance to NE10 Championship Game For First Time


MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sixth seed Saint Rose continued its impressive run in the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship as they fought back from a 1-0 deficit to draw even with No. 2 Franklin Pierce 1-1 before eventually earning a victory in penalty kicks. No. 5 Assumption, meanwhile, scored in the final five minutes of regulation to break a 2-2 tie and take down No. 8 American International by a 3-2 margin.

Both Saint Rose and Assumption with be making their program's first-ever apperance in the NE10 Championship Game. The contest will be played at Assumption on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. The winner of Saturday's game will receive the NE10's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.


No. 6 Saint Rose 1, No. 2 Franklin Pierce 1 – 2OT (5-4PK) - Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – Saint Rose reached its first-ever NE10 Championship Game, drawing even on a nice goal in the second half and then after two overtimes the Golden Knights made all five of their penalty kicks to secure the record-breaking victory over No. 2 Franklin Pierce. 

Saint Rose was outshot 16-5 and trailed 1-0 after the opening 45 minutes, however, the Golden Knights evened the score up in the 51st minute on a goal by Filippo Bellu. They eventually forced overtime and then sent the game to penalty kicks, tied 1-1. In penalty kicks, both teams made their first four attempts before Franklin Pierce hit the post on its fifth attempt. Niv Fogel then stepped up and buried his attempt into the upper corner to set off the celebration.

 


No. 5 Assumption 3, No. 8 American International 2 – Box Score 

WORCESTER, Mass. – Kevin Hernandez scored the game-winning goal with just 4:06 left in regulation to lift No. 5 seed Assumption to a 3-2 victory over American International and to its first-ever appearance in the NE10 Championship Game.

AIC took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, but Hernandez tied up the contest 12 minutes later. Senior Jason Lages gave the Hounds their first lead on a free kick from 25 yards out, however, the Yellow Jackets tied up the game with under nine minutes left. Hernandez netted his second goal with 4:06 left off a pass from Lages. Sebastian Jimenez made nine saves in net to secure the win.
