Ed Matz Hired as Assumption Men's Soccer Head Coach

Matz Spent Eight Seasons Coaching UMass Women's Soccer.


WORCESTER, Mass. – Following an extensive national search, Assumption Director of Athletics, Christine Lowthert, Ed.D. is excited to announce Ed Matz as the next men's soccer head coach.

Matz comes to Assumption with over 25 years of head soccer coaching experience at the Division I level. He currently serves as the president and owner of All in College Sports Inc. and is the Director of Coaching at Rush Soccer Club in the Massachusetts West Region.

"We are so excited to welcome Ed Matz to the Assumption family," said Lowthert. "Matz brings a tremendous amount of experience and will continue to build on the recent successes of our men's soccer program. We can't wait to see what is in store for the future of this program with coach Matz at the helm".

Matz served as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for eight years (2010-2018). He led the program to the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2011, earned the most wins since the 1997 season and fundraised for a new soccer practice facility and upgrades of the home game facility.

Matz also served as the head men's and women's soccer coach for Northeastern University. He ran the men's program from 1996 to 2004 and the women's program from 1999 to 2009. He led the men's program to the American East Championship in his first year at the helm and posted the highest winning percentage in program history.

As the founder of the athletic program at Wheelock College, Matz held the role as Director of Athletics and Recreation for 11 years.

Throughout his many years of coaching, Matz took teams of both genders to the NCAA Tournament, won conference championships, and was named conference coach of the year on numerous occasions. He coached many All-Conference players, All-Americans, and athletes that have gone on to play professionally.

Matz currently resides in Longmeadow, Mass.
