FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Colson Steals Four Bags to Become All-Time Program Leader.

"On This Date" in 2019, Saint Anselm softball player Shannon Colson broke the Hawks' program record for career stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With four stolen bases in the first game against the Purple Knights in Colchester, Vt., Colson passed Nicole Boucher (56) for the program record in steals with 58. The junior outfielder finished the season with 70 career swiped bags, before extending her own record even further in 2020 during the abbreviated season.

Colson, who is tied for sixth all-time in stolen bases in NE10 history, topped the Saint Anselm swiped bags list as a junior. In 20 games this season as a senior, she had 11 more stolen bases to boost her career total to 81.

Colson stole a career-high 32 bags as a sophomore in 2018, the most of any Hawks' player in a single season in program history. For her career, she successfully stole 81 bases on 92 attempts - both program records - while her steal percentage of .880 is sixth-best in program history.

The Hawks had a special 2019 season, which included a No. 1 ranking in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll for the first time in program history. Saint Anselm went on to win the NE10 Championship and advance to the NCAA Super Regional for the second-straight year.

This season, Saint Anselm was off to a 16-4 start prior to the cancellation of spring sports due to the global pandemic. The Hawks finish the 2020 campaign ranked No. 12 in the NFCA Poll.
