NE10 Softball Teams of the Week: Saint Michael's, Southern Conn.

saint michael's - southern conn - Teams of the Week

Each week for the remainder of the spring we will honor the seniors from two NE10 softball programs as our teams of the week for each player's dedication to their program and teammates.

Saint Michael's

Head Coach Nick Goodreau on his senior class – "When I arrived at Saint Michael's College in 2018, this class was seeking change. It's not easy for any student athlete to work through a significant coaching transition, and all four of them completely embraced the challenge. Despite the fact that not only was there a change in coaching staff, we also had a large class of eight first years, and they all did a fantastic job and demonstrated strong leadership qualities through the process.

Katie, Danielle, Torie, and Julia took ownership across various aspects of the program such as redefining core values, fundraising, skills development, and set the tone and culture of this program for many years to come. They built a powerful sense of comradery among the team, and they were ready to have a breakout year in the NE10. There is no doubt in my mind that these young professionals will do great things in the future. They helped define how this program will evolve and they have been at the forefront of our transformation. I'm honored to have worked side by side with them, excited to see what their futures hold, and I will miss them dearly.

Seniors

Season Recap
The Purple Knights were unable play a game in 2020, as their March trip down to Florida was canceled before they could play a game. The four seniors welcomed eight first-year players to the team and boasted the team's largest roster since 2017 as they looked to improve on last year's 3-22 mark in the NE10.

Southern Connecticut

Head Coach Jill Rispoli on her two seniors – "Sara and Cailey have been cornerstones of our program. Not only are they outstanding athletes between the lines but they are extraordinary people. They are smart, confident, and kind women who put the program and their teammates first. Watching them grow has been a thrill! I could not be prouder of these women.

Cailey is a wonderful role model in the classroom and on the field. She is a devout teammate and wants nothing but the best for everyone in her life.  She is as successful as she is today due to work ethic that is second to none! Sara is in a league of her own. She is incredibly driven to be the best version of herself both on the field and in the community. She takes every rep as though it's her last and her future is as bright as it comes!"
