CoSIDA Academic All-America Release
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire senior pitcher Maddy Barone has been named Second-Team Academic All-America as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday afternoon.
Barone earned Academic All-America honors for the first time in her career after a third straight Academic All-District selection earlier this year. The senior pitcher maintained a 3.95 GPA while majoring in Mathematics.
The right-handed hurler finished her career with a 1MAD.78 earned run average, the third lowest in program history. Barone is second in career strikeouts (431) and innings pitched (530.0) in SNHU history. She followed up an eighteen win sophomore season by going 20-7 with a Northeast-10 leading 1.25 ERA in 2019. Barone was 4-2 with a 1.89 ERA in her six appearances in 2020 before the season ended.
Barone is the first NE10 softball player to earn Academic All-America honors, since 2018 when Alyssa Williamson of Merrimack, Brenna Martini of Adelphi and Le Moyne's Alexis Eastman were all honored.
Twenty-seven of the 33 members of the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with six student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.86.
