MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut men's track & field program captured its fourth consecutive NE10 Indoor Championship on Friday evening, while the Stonehill women claimed their seventh straight NE10 Indoor Title, at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The Skyhawks won by over 50 points with their total of 152.5, while the really battle for seconds came down to the final relay. Assumption held off American International,  Southern New Hampshire and Southern Connecticut to claim second for the second straight year. The Hounds finished with 98 points, followed immediately by AIC (97), SNHU (96) and SCSU (93).

For the Owls, they left no doubt with their total of 242.5 points to surpass the Yellow Jackets who took second with 132 points. Assumption came through in third with 84 points while New Haven placed fourth (72) and Stonehill took fifth (69.5).

Following Friday's competition the NE10 awarded its Most Valuable Athlete of the Meet award, which was created this year to honor the student-athlete that has compiled the highest point total at the track & field championship, including both track & field events. Assumption freshman Anthony Spignese captured the award for accumulating 20.75 points for the Hounds with victories in the 60 & 200 meter dashes. Adelphi's Gabrielle Buissereth claimed the women's award, as the sophomore totaled 22.5 points by winning the 200 and 400 meter races.

Saint Rose's Shanne Kerin won the Elite 24 award for posting the highest GPA of any female competing at the NE10 Championships, as the biology major has a 3.97 GPA. Southern Connecticut's Troy Stegman won the men's award as the Psychology major has a 3.99 GPA.

Spignese and Buissereth earned men's and women's Track Athlete of the Meet awards, while Michael-Ange Siaba of Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire's Ashley Elder were honored as Field Athletes of the Meet.
