MANSFIELD, Mass. – Only two events were completed on Thursday evening but both turned out to be record-breaking performances as host American International has the early lead in the standings.

In the men's hammer Evangelos Fradelakis recorded a career-best throw of 64.02 on his second to last throw of the day to take the NE10 Title by nine meters. It broke the old NE10 record of 61.87 meters set back in 2015 by Tresley Dupont. The mark is also the 10th best in the nation this year. Southern's Kelly Turner took second in the event with a throw of 55.39 meters while Jonathan Pierre was third with his effort of 54.15 meters.

AIC's Ezra Mutai turned in a record-breaking effort in the 10,000 meters as he finished in 28:44.21, breaking the previous NE10 record of 30:02.18 by Michael Biwott back in 2015. The mark is also the fastest time by a Division II runner in the entire nation. Teammates Titus Kiptoo and Jason Beaver took second and third in 31:03.65 and 32.12.74.

Halfway through the decathlon, Assumption's Cameron Donoghue leads the field with a score of 3421 over Shane Smith of Southern Connecticut. Donoghue has finished first or second in each of the first five events.

AIC leads through two events with 29 points, while Southern Connecticut is second with 18 points.

Action gets underway tomorrow at 10:30 in the long jump and the decathlon. The complete schedule of events, live results and video are available at our championships page.
