SCSU Men & SNHU Women Lead After Day 1 of Indoor Track & Field Championships

Owls & Penmen Lead After Day 1 of 2023 Indoor Championships. 


BOSTON, Mass. – Following the first day of competition at the TRACK at new balance, the Southern Connecticut Men hold a 42-point lead while the Southern New Hampshire women own a 16-point lead at the 2023 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

The Owls have a tournament-best 73 points to lead, ahead of Franklin Pierce in second with 31 points. New Haven (28), Assumption (27) and Adelphi (18) round out the top five teams at the end of the first of two days. 

On the women's side, the Penmen have 49 points to Adelphi's 33, who is in second place. New Haven and Southern Connecticut currently are tied for third with 25 and Franklin Pierce rounds out the top five with 24.  

Ashley Corcoran and Maggie McInerney took home NE10 titles so far for the Penmen, with Corcoran winning the 5000M (18:40.96) and McInerney taking the Pentathlon (2937). Corcoran also contributed to the team's DMR second place finish as the 1600M anchor. 

The other gold medalists for the women on the Day 1 were Kyria Moore of Adelphi, Kisha Francois of SCSU, Elizabeth Jones of Franklin Pierce and Adelphi's DMR (12:16.96) of Isabel Marsh, Fiona Maloney, Sumaira Mayan and Katherine Marsh. Moore won the weight throw with a toss of 19.05m, Francois claimed the long jump title at 5.81m and Jones won pole vault with a height of 3.05m. 

Kisha Francois, Raven-Symone Jarrett and Kristen Washington all met the NCAA Division II Provisional distance for women's long jump, while Nyjah Young-Bey met the 400M DII Provisional time. 

SCSU men had two gold medalists on the first day with Nathaniel Llanos in pole vault clearing 4.90m and Adelino Daveiga in the weight throw at 17.80m. Llanos's jump was the only NCAA Division II Provisional mark on the men's side. Three others joined the two Owls with gold medals - Claudio Rocha of Assumption won the men's 5000M with a time of 14:57.42, Chester Khalil Adelphi long jump 6.90m and the Franklin Pierce DMR (10:09.77) quartet of Riley Fenoff, Nathan Rinaldi, Evan McNeice, and Ryan Outerbridge
