Assumption and SCSU Earn a Pair of Honors as NE10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Major Awards are Announced

Assumption & SCSU Claim Four of Five Major Awards


MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut claimed both Track and Field Athlete of the Year awards, while Assumption swept rookie awards and New Haven took home the Coaching Staff of the Year as the Northeast-10 announced its Indoor Track & Field major award winners on Tuesday afternoon. 

Jonathan Volpe and Cameron Belton took home Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Year, respectfully, while Assumption's Tre'Seam Bouie and Yoofi Abaka-Amuah were recognized as the Track Rookie and Field Rookie of the Year. Shaunnaya Williams and her Charger staff was selected as the NE10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year. 

Volpe won one individual NE10 Championship and made the podium in one other individual championship. He finished first in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:54.28 and placed second in the mile with a 4:07.73 finish. Fellow Owl, Belton, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in shot put, won the shot put title with his 17.53m toss at the NE10 Indoor Championships. 

Bouie medaled in two individual events, and took gold in one. He came in first in the 400M dash with a time of 48.20 and placed second in the 200M dash with a time of 21.47. Teammate Abaka-Amuah made the podium with a third place finish in shot put with a 16.02m mark, and also placed fourth in the wight throw with a distance of 16.47m. 

Shaunnaya Williams and her staff at New Haven claimed Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the first time in program history. This year, the Chargers finished second at the NE10 Indoor Championship wit 117 points, the best finish the program has accomplished to date.
