2021 NE10 WOMEN'S GOLF preview PRE-CHAMPIONSHIP Poll & Team Capsules

Franklin Pierce, the two-time reigning champion, has been selected as the favorite by the league’s head coaches to win the upcoming 2021 NE10 Women’s Golf Championship at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course (Concord, N.H.) on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 9-10), as hosted by Southern New Hampshire. The Ravens will look to become the first program since former NE10 member Merrimack to win three-straight women’s golf titles.

The NE10 Women’s Golf Championship will be a 36-hole tournament – one round on each day – and a live scoring link is available HERE. Tee times will begin on 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

#1 FRANKLIN PIERCE

Franklin Pierce enters the Championship as the league favorite, commanding 25 points and five first-place votes in the NE10 Women’s Golf Pre-Championship Poll. Five votes atop the poll were the maximum that the Ravens could have received from opposing head coaches.

The Ravens, led by ninth-year head coach Tyler Bishop, have won each of the past two NE10 titles in 2019 and the spring of 2021. They will look to make it a “three-peat” when the Championship begins on Saturday. Individually, Franklin Pierce has produced each of the last two golfers to earn medalist honors at the Championship – Jinnapat Rittawee (2019) and Zoey Yamamoto (spring 2021).

This year, freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul – a two-time NE10 Player of the Week - leads Franklin Pierce into the Championship. She has already won three tournaments this fall, placing first at the Evann Parker Memorial, Michael Corbett Fall Classic and the FPU Fall Invitational.

Overall, the Ravens have won three NE10 titles in program history. One more win would tie the program with Merrimack for the most-ever by an NE10 program.

#2 ADELPHI

Adelphi ranks second in the NE10 Women’s Golf Pre-Championship Poll with 17 points, edging out Assumption and Stonehill by narrow margins. The Panthers are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Championship this past spring, but have made a big jump this fall – finishing first at both the Saint Rose and Le Moyne Fall Invitationals. Overall, Adelphi has secured four finishes in the top five in the fall season.

Sophomore Ilaria Ponziani, a two-time NE10 Rookie of the Week, has provided a spark for Adelphi, as well as the return of junior Emily McKenna and sophomore Hannah Trinh. Head coach James Sweeney enters his fifth season with the program and looks to help the program win its first NE10 title in history.

Head coach John O’Hara has oversaw four top-three finishes for the program this fall – including a recent second-place finish at The 1886, hosted by Stonehill.

Senior Samantha Leary, who earned a spot on the All-Championship Team this past spring, returns as Assumption’s most experienced golfer. Leary is also a two-time Elite 24 Award winner, given to the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at each NE10 finals site.

The Skyhawks finished second at the Championship in April, earning their first-ever runner-up finish in women’s golf behind the strong performances of Julia Dapron and Emily Kase – a pair of All-Championship Team members.

The Skyhawks are coming off their first-ever host tournament, The 1886, where they placed third. Stonehill, led by sixth-year head coach Nick Crovetti, looks to secure its first NE10 title in program history at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
